Theoretically speaking yes, however, both are fixed so its a useless experiment.

I would think if the poochies sped up to the speed of light, it might be possible that time would actually back up for them which, theoretically, could cause them to be fertile again. So I would think that puppies still might be a possibility and I think its an experiment worth trying. Only problem is, you have to have them collide at the correct end of the dog, which means they need to run backwards. [last edit 11/26/2008 2:16 PM by Raticus - edited 1 times]

| | | I have a new 10mp Nikon. Nothing fancy but it takes pretty decent pics. I should be back from Arkansas late Saturday night so I may be up for a possible Sunday excursion, depending on how things go when I get back. I have to admit that I did have some help getting in to the tunnels. My current boss used to work there when he was just out of college. He worked at the String test facility and was able to give me tons of info about it and the Magnets lab. He wants to go with me next time as well.

| | | I know I can't go on Sunday, but I'm sure some of the guys can. Even if they can't though bring back some pics. You would reach "UE Top Notch" status really quickly. Everyone is dying to see the inside of that place, but only 1 or 2 seem to have ever been able to get in.

| | | I got back in town late yesterday so I didn't make it out. I will be taking a trip out there Tuesday night. For those that are wondering the entrance is not at the main SSC building. It's at another facility south of it where the low, medium and high energy accelerators all linked in to the big main accelerator ring.

It's my understanding that the HEB was never completed and the LEB and MEB are cut and cover tunnels, not bored. That being the case, I wouldn't think there would be any access from the LINAC site to the main collider ring.

| | | Detailed design and early construction work was proceeding on all major machine components. "The conventional construction for the first stage of the injection complex, consisting of the ion source and a linear accelerator stationed in a 250-meter tunnel, was complete." The first circular accelerator in the chain, the Low Energy Booster (LE, consisting of a 600-meter circumference ring filled with resistive magnets, was designed and 90% of the tunnel complete. The next element in the sequence, the Medium Energy Booster (ME, consisting of a ring of 4.0 kilometers in circumference, again using resistive magnet technology, was designed and excavation of the tunnel had started. The third and final accelerator before entering the large collider rings, the High Energy Booster (HE, consisting of 10.8 kilometer circumference tunnel filled with superconducting magnets, was under design. Finally, for the 87.1 kilometer circumference collider ring, the excavation of seventeen shafts was complete, and the tunnel boring, begun in January 1993, had proceeded rapidly, with 77,065 feet (roughly 23 kilometers) completed by fall 1993. ------- http://www.osti.go...viewable/66599.PDF everything you need to know to find your way in is in that pdf

I have read that and many other documents and diagrams, but you stated it clearly, just as I said, the HEB was in the design phase (never constructed), thus no access to the main collider ring or am I missing something here?

| | | I never said anything about the HEB I just stated access to the tunnels that I was in are at the facility south of the main SSC building. I am only going on what I have found through research and from what my boss has explained to me and from what he knows, there is no access to the main collider ring at the larger facility off of arrowhead road. That was where the magnets were assembled before being transported to the tunnel.

| | | So are you saying there is access to the main collider ring tunnel from the facility that is south of the main SSC site? When the project was underway, there actually was access at the main site, there were three shafts to the collider ring. They are still there, but have been backfilled, but you can clearly see them. There was a personnel shaft, a utility shaft and a magnet delivery shaft.
