Since no one is doing much exploring these days due to the RNC, I have the perfect solution for you: come watch my documentary about the good old days of UE

As noted in an earlier message, URBAN EXPLORERS: INTO THE DARKNESS
(www.urbanexplorersfilm.com and myspace.com/urbanexplorers) will be screening tomorrow night (Aug. 31st) the Minneapolis Underground Film Festival (@MCAD). It's the closing night film. Details here:

www.minneapolisund...ndfilmfestival.com

I will be there. Sse ya then. MG

PS: BTW more screenings coming up in South Dakota, St. Louis and San Francisco.

If everyone had the right to do anything they wanted, that would be cool. Some Sally's even bitch about my bike thundering through their neighborhood at bar time. And you do get your gear back. You should have seen some of the stuff that came over the property clerk's desk. Even she couldn't believe we were getting it back. The officer we were dealing with for two days told her tough shit, we weren't charged and we get it all back. Crow bars, hack saws, poopy waders, a raft, rappeling gear, 50X scope, poopy rain jacket, pick axe, lock pick set. Those were the big items. True half the stuff had been in my car for plenty of other purposes for months, that explains the 3 saws that even I couldn't find until they searched. But it must have looked like an arsenal to them. One cop said either I'm in construction, or robbing banks. I didn't like it, but thay had to sort things out to protect other peoples freedoms. We COULD have been robbing houses OR blowing up ethenol plants. So if you want to tell the cops to go to hell because you got rights, be my guests. They have worked with us before, no point on ruining that relationship just to be dicks. So go for it, I might even come visit you.........I might.

It sure is convenient for some people, especially non-midwestern, non-exploring, UER posers to keep suggesting there's anything you can do in defiance of the police force in the Cities right now. Especially when they aren't in the Cities seeing the way things are right now.

I went out walking around downtown Minneapolis with Gatsby two nights ago. We weren't exploring, just walking around downtown, looking at old buildings and talking about history. We didn't have backpacks, or headlamps, or cameras, or anything remotely suspicious. We were even dressed nicely. Still, we managed somehow to attract the attention of a police officer who ended up following us all the way back to our car (and he got our plate numbers when we left). That was Minneapolis, the city that wasn't hosting the GOP convention.

Yesterday, Freak and I went boating on the river and saw a billion police boats of various counties that had been recruited to help secure the convention.

FBI helicopters have been patroling the river looking for anything out of the ordinary on the banks or by the railroad tracks. Members of the national guard, stand at intersections, humourously wearing their camoflage fatigues with bright orange visibility vests over top. There are armies of cops in both St. Paul and Minneapolis. It has become a police state.

Yet despite all their effots, law enforcement agencies continue to find shitheads stirring up trouble. A clandestine protest group was discovered when police raided a vacant theatre. Shithead anarchists started causing damage by randomly smashing the windows of storefronts in downtown St. Paul. They were destroying the property of private business owners, ordinary citizens of Minnesota who have nothing to do with the Republican convention! To quell the madness, the police used tear gas in such amounts that innocent city workers got gassed simply from the wind carrying the shit through the air.

If anyone here thinks they can stand up to the cops and espouse their rights to take pictures or whatever, I welcome you to try it in downtown St. Paul right now. A person who honestly thinks that's a good idea clearly needs the electro-shock therapy they'll recieve from a barrage of police tasers that get provoked. Don't be a stupid shithead, and don't talk out of your ass if haven't seen how things are in the Twin Cities right now.

Even though the fascist police presence right now sucks, it's pretty much required in order to maintain some kind of order when idiots start smashing store front windows and randomly breaking shit for no reason. People just need to be patient, and let the law enforcement folks do their job. And if that means leaving your camera at home, then please just fucking do it.

call me a shithead as much as you want, I stand by what I first said... I would not hand over my camera to a cop unless he was arresting me. And you can not arrest someone for not handing over a camera, as that's simply denying an officer a legal search. If and when they try to take it from you, then it becomes an illegal search and seizure, and illegal detainment. Perhaps in a riot they could get away with it, but then again I wouldn't be caught dead in a riot... and being in 'riot' gear does not mean there is a riot in place, more like 'prepared' if one does break out. And I would threaten, if not go through with a lawsuit.

And if you don't believe me, you yet to know me well. I don't care how many people I piss off by saying this in this thread... it's who I am, and I know that I'd give a cop crap if they tried it on me. What more do you want me to say?

Just don't hang around me when a cop comes up out of the blue and asks to see some I.D. I'll show that, and give my name and address, and ask if I am under arrest... and if not, I'll tell him have a pleasant night and walk away.

Update:

please note, when I say OUT OF THE BLUE, that's what I mean... not 10 minutes after getting out of an abandoned factory, lol.

abridged: MSP is a police state.

I think I know quite well where you're coming from. My city has just emerged from 24 hour patrols by SWAT mounted on SUV running boards. Fully armed riot cops every block. Police from at least 15 different jurisdictions, all over downtown.

Denver is back to normal, and for MSP, this, too, shall pass.

Yeah, but don't you understand that people are smashing windows as a protest against the oppressive police occupation? It's one of the ways that the government keeps getting such big wins. United States - increasing the number of terrorists, foreign and domestic!

I read today that an ABC reporter got thrown into jail, charged with a few counts of trespassing, ignoring a lawful order, etc. for photographing some democratic senators with wealthy donors... on the sidewalk, on a public street.
I wouldn't turn this into a talk on civil liberties/politics, just the normal cops abusing their power debate.

That was the Democrat convention in Denver.
You know, the one where they built a Guantanamo-style jail?

That makes perfect sense. People are protesting the Republicans, the Police presence, your fuckin dog. So in the name of protest you SHOULD destroy property that is not YOURS. If you smash someone else's stuff, it doesn't cost you a dime. We should trash Mickies while we're at it, because.....well just because. They always put up with our drunk asses, so lets get em, they might know a Republican or a cop. So they are all in the Sekrit Government Conspiracy together. They will surely bring the Roswell UFo's to kill and or capture us all if we don't do something right now. And that my friends is why they have so many police out for this. There are just too many people that want to do stupid things in the name of something else. Look at the crusades, look at terrorists using the Koran. The police are providing security, and I'm sure in the line of duty they shit on some freedoms, unlike the peaceful protesters that destroy innocent peoples shit for no good reason. Those guys are destroying stuff for the common good of the nation, it is the ONLY way to send a message. They could NEVER try to run for office and make any changes that way. The only way must therefor be through peaceful thoughtless violence and destruction.

word....
Its those few idiots that ruin it for the people that actually have a message...So that all that gets played on the news is scenes of riots going on, and not the 12 or so hours of peaceful protesting going on... Or the clip of Rage Against the Machine promoting peace when the police said they couldn't play because it was past curfew, and they were afraid a riot would start. Now what you see is fox news says things like oh the crowds are detonating homemade bombs... which turned out to be a untrue and completely unconfirmed rumor.. Videos of tear gas being shot, and of people breaking windows.

This is my final post in this topic, as I seem to have pissed quite a few people off that I never intended to....

Junkyard brought to my attention that apparently I was not clear in writing... I am not some 'automatic cop hating punk'... ESPECIALLY while exploring. Exploring for me means being as cautious as possible, and trying not to make a scene. I'm not trying to get in trouble, or piss a cop off while I'm doing something of truly questionable legality... I'm trying to get away without any harm. And if I get a ticket, or something else of the sort, while most people would complain, I can sit there and take it without a problem, and even be nice to the officer, as I know that I was wrong, and am fine with accepting the punishment. I have a strong sense or personal morals, and they do not all agree with the law or other people's views. I know that a police officer is another person just doing another job, and for the most part I can believe that they are (or they think) they're doing the right thing...

I just have a hatred for cops that try to get away with murder too much. Here in my small town outside of Milwaukee, there are way way way to many police on the force for my area. If you get pulled over for a speeding ticket, there will be 3 cars minimum there in 2 minutes, and if you look 'young', there's a good chance they're going to ask to search your car. There's more detail, but basically cops in my area get away with too damn much because people don't know where a police officer's limit is... they assume that if a car is pulled over, it can be searched for any reason. I've had friends have their cars torn to pieces looking for drugs, all during a stop for a broken taillight. No lie there at all, and if you think I'm exaggerating you can go straight to hell on that one. People just don't know what a cop is and isn't allowed to do, and so they are walked all over. Same thing at doors, or on the street. When a cop asks you a question, and you don't feel like answering, you don't have to by law (except who you are, where you live, and maybe phone number [im not sure on that one]). But most people think that they must, and so they let the police officer have their way. Some cops love to take advantage of that (from what I hear, the FBI & CIA are notorious for scaring the shit out of people with just saying their name, and will get away with most things, even though everything applies to them as well). And I just won't stand for that for stupid shit.

...but since that message has come from Junkyard, I've thought a bit more on the topic, and I've decided I need not be so quick as to assume that all police are the same as the ones in my area.

I have nothing left to say on this subject.

Update: one small thing... I 100% agree that stupid violent rioters can burn if fucking hell. They know nothing of changing anything, and do no good in the slightest bit for anyone at all.

Oh, they did a lot of good for the republicans. They perfectly justified the overblown scare-mongering that led up to the RNC, and they've helped justify more cameras, fewer rights, and more restrictions on lawful legitimate demonstrations. The anarchists really helped support a police state.

And no, I'm not saying it's a government conspiracy, they're just too retarded to realize they're helping "The Man". The way these violence groups bragged about all their plans online really demonstrates their level of intelligence.

Last night I heard over the scanner that SPPD reported "the use of biohazardous projectiles." It was later determined that rioters protesters were throwing poop at the police and they had to retreat giving up a bridge. My feed server was down otherwise I would post the audio of that call.

Yes sir, no sir, and a cooperative attitude will get you out of allot of shit. I know a K9 state trooper and according to him there is no phrase that'll bring his dog out quicker than "I KNOW MY RIGHTS!" you might as well be saying "Why yes officer, there IS a kilo of blow under my seat...right next to the uzi." And yeah, there are some dick cops out there but most of them are just like the rest of us at work: doing just enough to pay the bills and not get fired.
