| | | Right, IRC, considering im on it 24/7, is confusing to new timers, so just go here: http://www.uer.ca/chat/ Or if you want, /server irc.esper.net and then /j urbanexploration [last edit 2/5/2004 6:14 AM by aplz - edited 3 times]

| | | I think this is a good idea if you can get enough people to use it. Uer actually has a chat room at uer.ca/chat, but no one knows about it.

| | | Yeah, I stick my head in the UER chatroom every so often but no one is ever there. On that note: Av: Maybe you could code something so that if I'm surfing the forum in one window, and I go into the chatroom with another window, it would show up on my profile or somewhere (maybe have an asterik by my name in the "online users" area. That way people know who is in the chat room and it will get used more often.

| | | Av, it appears that the chat would get used. I think if it could have different rooms to allow for different types of conversations. Also having the ability to have clickable links would be cool. Asylunt
I understand if it isn't something you want to pursue, but thought I'd let you know that people were using it and these were afew of their problems.

How close can you go?
| | Re: UE Chat <Reply # 16 on 2/5/2004 9:26 AM >
| | | Most of the users of this board are from Canada and US, right? What IRC network do you use there? IRCnet? Dalnet? An IRC channel for UE would probably be good idea, better than web-based chat. But in which network? For example I have never heard about this "Espernet" DarkTreader mentioned. So, would it be better to use "more popular" IRC networks such as IRCnet, that can be used with web-based client (http://chat.ircnet.org, no installing etc.), instead of those less-known ones?

Espernet is in the channel listing. One of the main things about using Espernet is that there's not much traffic on it usually, therefore connecting to the server is quite faster. You don't have to deal with the reconnect issues that DALnet or IRCnet have.

| | | The old UE IRC channelwas on EFnet, then there was another one on slashnet. I think there was one on undernet at one point too. The point is that UErs, as a group, aren't very good with IRC. A web based chat will be the most successful, if integrated into one of the larger servers (like this one). Having it cross over to IRC would be ideal, for the knowledgeable people.
