Probably the most explored abandonment in Chicago.

http://www.youtube...LHw&watch_response

Video isn't mine.. This place is very creepy tho. There was a dead crack head in there last time I was there. I haven't heard anyone talk about it in a while. Maybe, it got played out or maybe it got closed down. If anyone wants directions hit me up.

The property is being redeveloped. Onsite security, new fences, and rumored guard dogs. Where there is a will there is a way though!!

It should be pointed out that at least a few of the Brach's photos lonecat posted aren't his--the first two were taken by people that I know:

photo 2: http://www.flickr....hicago/2354664732/

The fourth photo I remember seeing some time ago in an online article about the use of the Brach's complex for filming The Dark Night. I don't know who the original photographer is, and I was not able to locate the article.

lonecat: in the future, you might not want to 'borrow' other people's photos, especially without saying where you got them from--a lot of the forum members here are very sensitive to that. Rightfully so, I think.

Oh.. I wasn't trying to show my pictures off.. I don't even take pictures. I was just making a thread about the spot. And I thought those pictures were my friends because they were in his photo bucket. Sorry if I mislead anyone.

Man I'm sad now finding this out... I wish I could just visit one more time before they closed it..

You should credit photos that aren't yours.

No, it doesn't matter WHERE their photos are. You can show people the Mona Lisa but you STILL have to credit the artist. You don't want people to have the misconception that these photos are yours, when they aren't.

It kind of goes like this: The articles on Wikipedia? When you write a report for school, you credit that source because otherwise, it is plagiarism. It is the same thing here: If you post someone else's photos without giving credit, it is plagiarism. Plain and simple.

Thank you, NV, for citing the photographers.

Sorry, I probably forgot my <sarcasm> tags.

No problem. I wasn't trying to beat up on anybody, but I do take the issue of citing photo sources seriously. I think it's been made clear to lonecat that it is in fact "a big deal".

Speaking of which...that image you (lonecat) posted labeled "Slated for Demolition, November 16, 2008", that's announcement for a gallery show? If so, what gallery, and who's showing? I'd be interested in seeing it. I know that building, too. Neat place, or it was before the scrappers and taggers and guard dogs and whatnot.

If anyone who wants info on the gallery pm me.
If your interested in abandons and Chicago's history i wouldn't miss it.

Oh by the way the photo is not mine and I don't know if the person who is presenting the gallery wants me to show their name.

The first picture is mine, and I don't appreciate you posting it here, especially without credit. If you were one of my students and plagiarized like this, I'd flunk you.

Somebody mentioned "The Dark Knight."

I heard a rumor that a candy factory in Chicago was blown up for a scene of the movie. Is this the one?

YES.

edit: only a small portion of the complex--an office building--was blown up for the movie. The entire complex will soon be demolished.
