Teotihuacán or bust

I'm just starting to hash out a trip to Teotihuacán. Looks like the most economically feasible choices are to fly into Mexico City (from DFW) and take a bus to San Juan.

Has anyone ever taken this trip? I was in Mexico City in 92 and it was dangerous back then. Any tips or pointers are appreciated.

I went there this January. My husband and I flew in to Mexico City and took the bus (as you said). There are a few cheap line buses that I think we paid less than $5/person to get there from MC. But in exchange we basically had to listen to hawkers the entire trip over selling everything from refreshments to "magical creams".

Lonely Planet Mexico has a good guide on what options are available to get to Teotihuacán and hostels and hotels for once you are there. It also has the bus schedules and reviews of the options. You can PM me if you want me to give you specific info from the book. It was a fun trip and worth the prep work.

Oh my, I want to go there so bad. It's believed it was a city built by gods, or aliens (depends who you ask lol) or if you ask me, our ancestors were much smarter and more mysterious than we think.

If I were you, I wouldn't go with a tour group. That completely spoils the atmosphere of a place. I say rent a jeep and go after hours when it's empty. Although that could be illegal. Which you should find out about.

Anyway those are just my random thoughts on it.

I thought about spending the night there, but then had a horrible vision of my boyfriend and I being accosted by angry Aztec natives, or wild animals, or possibly even agressive vermin (lol).

My boyfriend is an Anthropology student and has a few professors who've done digs in the area so I am going to badger them to tell me about any 'behind the scenes' type of stuff.
