Northeast needs more threads: Exploring York IV

I'll call this one Rainy Day In York. It's the fourth time I've been out just for exploring. It was pretty uneventful but hey HERE'S THREAD ANYWAY!!

My cohorts didn't have cameras so I didn't waste their time getting decent shots.

We tried to see the legendary Toronita Street neighborhood (roughly 7 acres and 25 low income rental houses that were bought by a developer and vacated, then used for local firefighter training) before they demolished it all

1.

but it was all fucking razed when we got there. The good part about York is there are abandoned buildings hidden everywhere. So we went across the street to this place. I suspect it was a tanning salon.

2.

Though it didn't have anything to offer except a mediocre view of Interstate 30.

We continued to our main destination of the day. It's a small borough of York County that was an industrial center at its time, until its railroad company lost their main contract then stopped a lot of the trains. It contained two large abandoned buildings: a really shitty looking furniture company, and a sewing factory (which my grandmother worked at for 18 years, I was very eager to see this place). The furniture company was first.

5.

I've never been to a place like this, so dark you couldn't see the low hanging pipes right in front of your face. Shit was piled everywhere, with rusty nails sticking out. I would have no idea what it looked like if I didn't use the flash on my camera.

6.

The foundation looked like it had been demolished halfway and had a new one put on top of it a few times.

We climbed up some rickety ladder and got to the first floor, which was being used as storage for an auto repair shop. We decided to not explore the active portion, but just as we were about to leave a thunderstorm came through and dumped a few hundred gallons of water in the place.

11.

And suddenly I felt more secure in the building. It passed in about 20 minutes. Even though it stopped raining, water was still furiously draining from the roof on another side of the building. I think this place has some serious stormwater control issues.

12.

I wasn't going for an artsy shot here because these shots are done to hell, but it turned out kind of nice.

13.

We had to get back home so we decided that was enough for a day. I think the basement was the creepiest place I've ever been to anywhere.

the end

Tis a damned shame about that development. I would have liked to have seen that.
