|  | | | It's been awhile since Ive been on here,but in that while i havent been on here,i actually have found/seen some pretty cool places like for example one of the places I've seen/explored was once part of the old route 37 down near a rest area on the edge of town here.the actual part where it begins is blocked off off by the rocks that seperate the rest area from the river/surrounding trees.But if you park at the rest area you can walk in between the rocks and down the part of the old highway or there is also a hill on one side of the rest area that runs off the new highway.If you(instead of parking at the rest area)keep going just a little beyound the enterance to the rest area(about 10-20 ft)you'll see tire tracks(just make sure no cops or border patrol are around when you do this..Im not too sure if its legal for people to drive down there.even though some people still do lol)and just follow the tire tracks down to the old highway and you can follow the old part of the highway down to the trees(It shows there there is more beyond that on google earth,But I wouldnt advise it because its underwater)There isnt much to explore or see...execpt for just the little part of the old highway itself.As I get more info on the other places and everything i will post some satelite pics/pictures of mine

| | | | Oh man, there's tons of lesser-traveled roads in NJ. Clinton road was the best of them until they paved it... just a 10 mile long road around a reservoir in the middle of freakin' nowhere. All sorts of strange stuff supposedly went on around it too. It's also where they found the victims of the famed "Iceman" murderer/mafia hitman.
Other roads we have are Split Rock, Annie's, Whipporwill Valley (whippoorwill is misspelled on the sign itself), Shades of Death (yes, that's the actual name), Mt. Misery (also an actual name), and even our own gravity road (where you can throw your car in neutral and still roll up a hill, I think there's actually a few of these).
And not to mention, almost all the roads through the woods in the pine barrens are awesome and a bit scary, because you can seriously get lost for days in the maze they create, end up stuck in sugar sand, and hit all sorts of weird obstacles. There's spots along the roads where even smaller looking puddles can end up being 2-4 feet deep. Not to mention the notorious Jersey Devil!

But yea, once you get off the highways and byways and parkways and turnpikes, it's actually a fun state to drive in.

We have one of those too, right near MT. Misery road, on Sweet Hollow road. If you go in neutral and honk under the haunted bridge, you're supposed to start rolling backwards back up the hill.

| | | | Another road that time forgot,is a in a place we up in the woods call "sawdum"I don't think I spelled it correctly but thats how you say it.basically sawdum is just a long whiny road through the woods by the grasse river where there are camps and seasonal houses.but halfway down the road through sawdum (or at least it seems halfway to me)there is a big sandpit with a paved "private road"just a little ways (about 30 feet from it)keeping going through sawdum and about 1/2 mile down the road there is a opening in the woods.There is a sign(thats if have a 4x4 and decide to take that opening)and it says "no driving beyond this point"or something to that affect(but everybody drives down it anyway lol)and keep going past the sign and keep following the path until you near a caldusac or however you spell it lol,and you can either drive around it and go back toward the exit or there are are (i think,im not sure though)about 2 or 3 other trails/paths at that go deeper into the woods..and that's as far as I got with the jeep without getting stuck.But!I did manage to rip a fender off when the right side smacked into a good-sized log.but yeah like I said in my earlier post I'll try to get pics up as soon as I can and if not,I'll get some satelitte pics up at least or try..

| | | | Dig up some old maps and plat books, and you might be surprised what you'll find used to exist. Some of the oldest roads in the country have been abandoned.
Many were bisected by the US highway system, making a lot of dead ends, too.
