| | | These are all strong shots. The lighting is great. #5 looks so similar to ryans shot. I had to do a double take. Thanks for sharing. Beautifully done.

| | | these all look pretty solid, my biggest suggestion is to watch you lines more, straight lines can make or break photos like this. other than that it's small composition things like the bottom of the piano being cut off a tiny bit also i feel like the wide angle you're shooting takes away from some of these photos, number 3 would be awesome if it were shot more tight with the chair and the end of the hallway but you have a lot of nothing all around it that takes the focus away. it's also slightly off center with the middle of the hallway. look good though dude, now you gotta just sweat the small stuff

Thanks, that helped a lot. It was my second time shooting with that lens, and its extremely wide (12-22) so there is lots of distortion that I forgot to account for. Not taking that into consideration ruined a few other great shots that I couldn't even save with photoshop. I also need to take more time with the tripod, I get impatient and that ruined a few shots as well. But thanks again, I have a lot to learn still and criticism like your's and don_corleyone's can go a long way in helping me to improve.

anytime dude, i wasn't bashing wide angles, shots like 4 and 5 are really nice and you definitely shouldn't pull that off much tighter. but yeah as for tripods, always rock one and take your time a tripod is a HUGE compositional aid and it also allows you to shoot at smaller (f/16 and up) apertures which will bring out some nice detail and sharpness in some of those hallways shots

| | | Number 2 I'd have pulled back slightly and got all of the piano (including the right foot) into the shot. Might not have been possible, depending on the space you had to work with. Overall, pretty good damn good ! Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I didn't think you were bashing the wide angle. I just need to learn how to use it. The 12-22mm opens up some cool ways to alter depth perception and I need to utilize it more. Most of these were shot wide open at an aperture around f/9 with ISO200. 1 and 7 were shot with a 50mm prime though. EDIT:

I did have a picture of the piano that had the whole thing, but it still didn't feel like the composition was as strong. I also didn't review the histogram, and it was somewhat overexposed. Next visit I'm gonna try to get better shots of it and take into mind all this advice. It was a decent sized room, I could easily have pulled back a bit... Ill try that next time PS the dickesode of ATHF was fucking awesome. [last edit 6/19/2008 1:43 PM by willskith - edited 1 times]

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. It's the first thing that grabs your attention when you see the pictures. You have some pretty good shots there!

| | | i think you've got some really great shots here. it's hard to get straight lines with a wide angle sometimes. i've got the 10-22 and have that problem. i think #3 is a very strong shot. the compo is nice and i like it's simplicity. the lighting and compo in #5 is also really nice. i think #6 would be nicer if you cropped it so the window was out of the frame. i think the colors are great in this shot and it would become a stronger photo with the crop. #7 is nice as well. the half desk & half window actually works for this shot. nice job! you're gonna get so spoiled from your tripod you'll be lost without it!
