|  | | | Can someone help me figure out how to correct this photo, or is it beyond repair? I've got a photoshop bible, but can't seem to wrap my head around the lens correction filter.
Although the photo isn't that great (looks better as a set), the thin that is pissing me off is the door in the middle that is curved like a banana.
Is it possible to remove this distortion? If I do, will it bugger up the rest of the image?

| | | | I gave it a quick cheat in PS, its better. For quick corrections I use the spherize filter. There are lens correction DB's, depending on the lens you may be able to find your lens.

| | | | Lens correction in photoshop tends to work best if your photo was architecturally shot from straight on- meaning it won't always fix your edges if they fall outside the grid that it uses to correct. Sometimes if you extra-cheat and use the x and y correction (also under the "lens correction" filter menu) you can get things to workout a little better.
Never thought you use spherize to fix distortion though, so thanks for the suggestion, Geo.

Even the best wide-angle lens will cause some barrel distortion or vignetting, especially if it has filters on it.
Someone asked, in this thread, how to correct this. They didn't ask whether or not a good photo needed photoshop. Your 2cents contributed nothing.

I could do. I've only got a few from this school. I wanted more, but there were some locals playing football out front.
I'm gonna be taking a walk near that building near the ferry terminal that you saw. Plenty of rusty ships and anchors and what not.

I've found that the lens correction tools n CS3(filter>distort>lens correction) work well but the trade off is a slight loss of sharpness.
even $1000+ Canon "L" series lens need a little correction sometimes......

X2. he's 100% correct. DXO optics has the best lens correction routine I have ever seen. It actually reads the lens you have on, the zoom you are at and looks up the precise distortion in a database and corrects it dead nuts. It is beyond amazing. ten thousand times better than messing with the corrections and mesh warps in PS...

A good Photoshopper doesn't need a good photo. A good painter doesn't need a camera. Does it matter?
Photoshop is just another tool. The skilled use of this tool is no less an art form than the skilled use of a camera. Or a paint brush.
