Olympisches Dorf

Some shots I took a while ago at the 1936 Olympic village in Germany. The village was built in 1934 and it consists of 150 buildings (including a swimming pool, soccer field, athletics field, gym hall, theatre, etc.). Over 4000 athletes of 50 nations stayed at the village which later became an infantry school and residence for Russian officers.

Any critique or comments are more than welcome.

1 is great, 3 doesn't have enough contrast for me, but the subject and composition are good.

Great work! I like the curves of the building and vignetting in #3.

Amen to that

But because you guys are asking so kindly, I'll add a few more (didn't shoot 6 gazillion pictures at the place though). Two more of the pool and one of the newer built residences for the Russians (which will be demolished soon).

in regards to the first batch of photos you posted, i think they all need a little bit more contrast.

#1: i love the mellow pastel tones

#2: i love the composition of shot, and the angle of the windows on the wall leading towards the center of the photo in the back.

#3: this shot is interesting, but i feel like there's something missing and i can't put my finger on it.

nice job!

Thanks Desmet, @ YouOnlyLiveOnce, about #2; it might be the sky and the lack of clouds, I wanted to give it a kind of eerie atmosphere but the lack of clouds might temper this feeling too much.

nice telefunker! Cool place too. we where chased out of here by the security guy. He told us we couldn't enter the swimming pool.... of course we did but then he spotted us and we had to run to the exit while he chased us on his bike hehehe

that 3rd shot is very cool! that has a great eerie feeling over it.

i really like the swimming pool shots... the first one (in the first batch of photos) is very lonely and interesting. i like the first one in the second batch as well. the very straight on view is nice. gives it a certain feeling of depth.

the last image in the first batch i really like. the way you capture the curve of the buildings on the right leads you down into that courtyard. and the darkened edges of the photo... i love that.

very well done!

Until you posted the second set of photos, I really thought the colors in the first pool picture were fake. It looks like a color cutout. Great shot!

#2 is amazing. It has a similar feel to the cliche "lonely wheelchair" shot, but way cooler. A lonely gymnastics vault is way cooler than a wheelchair!

#3 - meh
#4 - cool, but not as good as 1
#5 - ditto
#6 - This would look a lot better if the sky wasn't so white. Storm clouds would look awesome. Maybe try playing with the levels, and increasing the contrast?

Awesome shots!
