I'm not a big fan of asylums/hospitals.. They've been shot countless times by people with more talent and better gear. they leave me feeling uninspired.. especially with a dozen other tripods lying around.

Regardless, I'm desperate to improve.. so I'll ask for some C&C from you fine people. I tried going for content, as opposed to aesthetics.

#2 is the strongest.

These are good, but like you said, the subject matter itself was a little lacking.

You took what you had and did all you could with it, in my book that is a success.

Needs more uniqueness and nonconformity. How did you stray so much from the back of the seat shots (your finest work in my opinion)?

Even though I'm a sucker for wheelchairs, I thought #4 was the best, mostly because of maroon coloured fabric.

#2 was a shot that I dreaded. When we first entered, people flocked to take that shot (specifically because of the wheelchair, but little did they know, I took a shot of them taking that shot).. it's something that I feel is way overdone, and try to avoid at all costs.. not because it doesn't look good, but simply because I don't think copying the same shot over and over will help me progress.

The huge group certainly detracted from the experience for me. Otherwise the location was excellent and I had fun getting lost inside of it. I didn't even get to fully explore the basement...

Also agreeing with what was already said, the subjects here just aren't terribly interesting. You did what you could with them, and #2/3 are certainly very good. I didn't feel that anything I got from there was unique or different, so I haven't bothered doing anything further than editing them.

#4 is definitely my favorite of the set.....love the texture and bold, dramatic lighting. definitely a keeper

I'd love to see an HDR of the last shot....the colors would look insane

Now there's a good idea. If people were flocking to photograph one thing like that, I'd take a meta-photo of the photographers taking their photos (I think I just made that term up).

Your picture of them taking the picture might (maybe) end up pretty good... Sometimes they end up being stronger, even if radically different...

1 Doesn't really do a whole lot for me
2 I like, it'd be nice to see some more contrast between the shadowing and light, may make an overall darker picture ( but thats coming from me and I'm all about darker pictures haha)
3 Is nice, i like the symmetry
4 My eyes are drawn to the purple because of its color but a little distracted by the brightness of the top right corner
5 I love the colors on the wall, wheel chair is a little cut off though, some different angles on it might look cool too.

Overall nice work, don't be uninspired by the guys who shoot the hospitals, be inspired to shoot it in an all new way that will blow them away. For me, i can go to a place a number of times and find something new to shoot that i missed the time before. Keep up the good work man.

Boring

Boring

Boring

Not bad, but still the subject could be more well defined. NOt 100% sure what Im looking at. Good light and color though.

Very good, but the wheelchair should be facing into the frame. By far the most interesting, well done shot here.

Thanks for your honesty. I'm still trying to work out a style that works for me. In terms of serious UE photography, I'm still pretty new.

I know what you mean. I was looking at my shots from the last time I was there and we have alot of the same shots just different angles. Everyone flocked to shoot the wheelchairs, makes you not even really want to shoot em. I love the mold on the wall in the last shot. I have shot that thousands of times so I skipped it the last time.

Not bad, but I think everyone has way overdone the wheelchair shots. But they are nice.

I like 'em.

The way I look at it, be happy that you have asylums to explore and photograph. The best nearby abandonment that I've got is a half demolished hospital, far less inspiring than it sounds.
