Hi Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that I’ve been selected as a finalist in the Dallas stop of the Unscene Tour Photography Competition! Come on out to the W Hotel in downtown Dallas Wednesday evening, June 11th between 7 & 9 PM and see my work, as well as that of the four other finalists. The invitation is attached below; if you can make it, please feel free to RSVP directly to [email protected]; admission is free, there’ll be cocktails available, and 50 photographs from 5 of the best photographers in north Texas.

Hope to see you there!

Congratulations Imbroglio and best of luck.

I might stop by
I love your night shots and the colors you user are awesome.
I do a lot of night time photography as well and it might be nice to trade some tips and pay complements in person to a good Photographer.
Congratulations =)

This is awesome... congrats!

Just today I was talking to another explorer about how you're one of my favorite photographers on UER. You make the most boring, simple abandonments look amazing! Definitely keep us posted on how it goes.

Hey Folks,

Thanks for all the kind comments and support! Unfortunately, I didn't win, but I understand I outsold all the other artists in the show by a pretty wide margin, even took a couple orders for larger prints too, so all in all, I'm completely happy with how things went!

The pictures that won are nice too. I do like the first one in the set, where the lady is out on the pier.

I would say that selling photographs is a good thing to come away with. Especially if you sold more than the other entrants. There's more ways than one to win I suppose, and sales is usually a nice way to win.

Nah cant be toxic. I waded 4 miles of white rock creek. Oh wait a minute I ended up getting sick as a dog and breaking out in a rash.

Maybe I'm just really picky, but I wasn't really impressed with those. The one of the pier looks a bit off centered, (Maybe it's suppose to be, I don't know....) and the under water shots are cool and well done, and I'm not expert on photography or anything, but I think yours blows those out of the water. (haha.. get it? Out of the water? HA! I kill me. Thanks, I'll be here all week...)

But seriously, yours are better.

Thanks Happidaze! While trying to be as objective as I can, I have to admit, I think my stuff is better too, and I think the patrons at the show definitely felt the same way. The frustrating part about this show was that, unlike all the other Unscene shows around the country, the guy who had final word on choosing the winner didn't even attend the show or see the actual prints! He had to be be at some art show in New York, so rather than basing his decision on the actual prints, as well as on whose art was getting bids and which artists the crowd was really responding to, he pre-judged the show simply by viewing the jpg files online, and picked his winner. Not a very clever way for a gallery owner who is contracted to give a show to the winner to go about his business, but it IS after all his business, so...whatever!

The few contests I've entered (local stuff, fairs, etc., nothing like the show you were in) have usually ended in a big ole question mark over my head about how in the world they come to the conclusion they did.

And not that mine don't win, almost always I find someone's photograph that is truly MUCH better than mine. What amazes me is, the one I think is far better than mine doesn't usually win either. It'll be some off the wall thing that really isn't all that appealing.

I wonder sometime if, on the local level, some friend or "donor" ends up being the big winner. That's probably not the case in a show like you were in, but I'm sure it happens a lot in little local contests. I'd rather see the best photograph win, even when it's not mine (which is most of the time).

I am surprised to hear what your describing going on in an event of the scale of that one. That doesn't sound like the most objective or professional way to judge a show.
