Through a few friends who go to UW Whitewater here in wisconsin, I have come to hear about some of the urban legends of the area, which is quite a long list. Ghosts, witchcraft, buried alters, secret rooms, books that cause suicide, and the most interesting to me... tunnels. Lots of tunnels from what I've heard, but no one has any details to much of anything. After a few hours of searching, I became to understand that there are (or were) tunnels under whitewater used during the underground railroad, and that they were used to move fleeing slaves from one house to another. I also managed to find out that there apparently was an entrance in one of the UW sorority basements. Well, I found out about a week ago that my boss's daughter is actually in that sorority, and I asked her if she knew anything about tunnels. Sure enough, she said that there is a door in their basement that leads to another house two blocks down, and that there are more tunnels like that around town, but she doesnt know much about any of the others.

So, my question is does anyone else have any information on these so called tunnels? I'm having a hard time digging anything else up, save going to the whitewater library and asking around town.

Whitewater has been on my list of places to check out for a while now. I'll be very interested to hear about what you can find!

Weird US has an interesting write up on that town. It pretty much goes over everything you've already listed.

I'd be up for a trip there. I live in Wisconsin, so Whitewater is a good one.

Weird; I drive through Whitewater (well, used to until they rerouted the road) all the time to visit relatives. Never even heard of this or even noticed anything weird. My uncle and a cousin went to the university there, I should ask them if they've ever heard anything about it.
