Hey everyone. I'm just starting to learn how to use a camera a step above a point and shoot. I'm pretty clueless at this point, so any advice is welcome. Here are a few of the better shots I took yesterday. Please, rip them to shreds..I really need the help! I don't have a photo editing program yet, so these are all as they came out of the camera.

post them bigger if you can.

What everyone is going to say is don't use a flash, invest in a tripod and use that instead. Longer exposure will look a lot better than the flash.

Composition wise, everything is dead center of the picture. There isn't really anything that catches my eye and keeps it interested to what is in the picture, you know?

I'd say get that tripod and give it another shot .

Good luck!

They look cool! But I agree I would like to see them larger in order for a proper Critique!

Ok. I'll post them bigger. I actually was using a tripod, I just didn't think of using a longer exposure instead of a flash. Thanks for the advice! Here are the same pictures, only larger:

Cool stuff.I'm not a photo-master, but as everyone else already stated, these could use some work. Not a bad start, though. What are you shooting with? I'd also suggest reading up on composition and the rule of thirds.

If you don't feel like spending the money on photoshop or want to use something in the meantime, try the GIMP, it's a freeware program that has a lot of options. It's not as good as photoshop, but it's a decent substitute. I think you can even process HDR shots in it.

Here's a link where you can download it:

Good luck and keep shooting!

You can also use photobucket for posting pictures, free to sign up and it gives you image codes you can post in the threads here so you don't have to use the little annoying gallery post thing. hope that helps some, otherwise just practice everyday and learn the camera as best you can, feel free to ask for help from others who know the camera, i'm sure i'll be doing that in a couple weeks when i buy an XTI. Good Luck!
