Calcutta India

I spent Three months in Calcutta India in 2005. If you love Urban Decay they you would feel right at home there. The city nothing short of amazing. There are countless old buildings from the British Occupation in various states of repair. Most of these are candid shots and a few shot out the windows of a taxi cab so forgive the quality.

We saw this monster of a bus almost every day. Not sure what route it was
running.

Scaffolding, the workers went up this stuff like monkeys. They also carried the bricks on their heads.

Ambassador Cab. The most common vehicle on India's streets. Damned tough little cars too.

This is a temple located on the Hoogley River. The steps are called Ghats. The people come down to the water to immerse themselves to absolve themselves of their sins.

Wow, thanks for sharing.

That bus is quite a site.

The pictures of the scaffolding reflect why it costs so much more to produce anything in the US compared to many of these other countries.

Very nice. Can you post more?

and the ancient. I don't know what these were. They were located in a temple compound inside the city.

another city bus. The drivers are Apeshit insane. They typically do not stop for passengers they only slow down. The busses are privately owned. So drivers compete for passengers on the same route. Accidents are common. When I was there a driver took a corner too hard and ran over a number of people standing on the sidewalk. Needless to say he was lynched and the bus set on fire before the police could respond.

Hey, thanks for posting those pics. I want to spend some time there in the near future. I've spent some time in Rangoon and Cambodia and enjoyed the rotting colonial architecture. Have a look at my photos if you like!

Easy to be cheap when your workforce is mostly expendible.
