Hi all! This is my first photo/location post, so I'll try to do it correctly, but please be gentle if I screw up.

I was in a town a few towns over from my own, with a friend who grew up in the area. He led me to this house, just down the road from his parents' place. Though it is now abandoned, was occupied up until just a few years ago. Actually, it wasn't difficult to believe that there might still be folks living in it. There's certainly enough "stuff" around - clothing, food, etc.

My wager is that whoever was living here last had some sort of collecting neurosis. Every room had mounds of one thing or another. In one room it was a collection of televisions. In another it was boots. Every room had clothing in it, and at least one mattress. I suppose it could just be the debris that accumulates when no one takes the previous tenant's stuff out, but it seemed a little too...organized for that.

OK, enough of my postulation. Without further ado, here are the photos:

(Please let me know if that link doesn't work.)

Cheers,

It looked like "Arthur's Hell" to me. The photo of the mattresses stacked in the room is my favorite.

I'm overly dramatic online AND I only explore for validation. I'm a double threat.

I was thinking it said "Arthur Z. Hell", until I did a little research on common surnames in the area. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "Arthur Shell" though, with the "S" being reversed. My guess was that the fellow had a pretty low literacy level. That's still a painfully prevalent issue, in some of the backwoodsy places, so back in 1921, I'm sure it was very common.
