| | Cannon 5D < on 4/21/2008 8:38 PM >
| | | I just got a Cannon 5d as an early birthday gift.
Just wondering if it is really worth it...
I was wondering who has one & their pros & cons about it. I asked for a 20d from my aunt.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. [last edit 4/21/2008 9:05 PM by GotPaisley! - edited 1 times]

| | | HA! i'm not trying to sound like I don't want it but is it really worth the money?
I would be happy with a 20D. I'm seriously thinking of returning it. I don't want to hurt my Aunt's feelings if I tell her I don't want it.

| | | If you'd really like a 20D, I'd be happy to trade with you. * I should note that the 5D is a fantastic camera and you should love it, cherish it, and revel in the pictures that the full-frame sensor will give you. However, if you'd rather have a very sweet 20D kitten, this can be arranged. [last edit 4/21/2008 8:55 PM by kowalski - edited 1 times]

| | | You can return it and buy nan's 20D. If you don't think you need it, then you probably don't.

| | | I am happy with my silly Rebel XT. I was looking at a 20 D as it is more user friendly. I mentioned this months ago to my Aunt never thinking she would even know what the hell I was talking about.
Let alone get me something so expensive.
I'm a klutz & drive everyone up a tree with questions about my camera as it is.

I must remind my family not to be so thoughtless in the future...'specially since my bday is coming up. I'm not sure if a 20d is more user friendly -- it just has less features. Since someone gave you a nice camera, just smile, nod, keep or pawn and move on.

I'm very thankful for my gift but I feel guilty for accepting such a gift from my Aunt. She is way too giving to me as it is. Hell, One time i would taken the 5D & not looked back. I'm blessed when it comes to my family but I'd rather my Aunt use the money to visit us or something towards my wedding. A gift, We can all share by spending time together. In all seriousness... I was wondering if people that owned the 5D really liked it. So, i was wondering about what the pro's & con's are with the camera.

| | | Sounds like your aunt was trying to go all-out and get you something you'd really enjoy, so I'd make sure you make a big deal of the whole thing, if I were you, and show her lots of pictures. The 5D is a well-loved camera in terms of image quality, and it's only let down by its comparatively small screen and less-than-optimal ergonomics. The 5D is aging, going on three-years-old, which is why it currently sells for less than half the original retail price, but people are still buying them, and certainly still using them. I'd keep the 5D, be very grateful to your aunt, and most importantly, as I said above, send her lots of pictures

| | | I'd say stick with it, it's a hell of a camera and you should definitely be happy with it. And as mentioned earlier, make sure you show your aunt that you greatly enjoy your gift, that way everyone will be happy.

| | | Paisley, jesus, keep that thing. I've had a chance to take a few shots with a friend's 5D and it's so worth it. That full frame sensor is amazing.

| | | Think the D5 is hugely overrated. Yeah the full sensor is cool but due to cropping half my lenses don't work anymore. Thinking about selling mine & downgrading to 10 D

| | | Thanks guys for all the input. I decided to give my Aunt back the camera as it is too expensive of a gift to receive from her. I know she means well & I'm blessed to have her as an Aunt but right now the 5D is something I really don't need. I'm flying out to see her in Florida & we are going on an amazing vacation just her & I. To me that is so much more valuable then a camera that I would be afraid to run around dead buildings with. If something happened to it, I'd feel sick to my stomach. It would be different if I bought it or my fiancé gave me it as he knows how bad I am with my Rebel. Anyways, Thanks guys!

| | | man I hope you havent returned it....you may have your reasons for doing so, but If I were you I'd certainly keep it. Ive spent a great deal of time shooting on 5D's and think its a beautiful camera....then again, if it werent for the full-frame sensor, I'd still take my D200 over it any day of the week. I may be a proud nikon guy, but I sincerely believe the shots that come out of my d200 are far richer and more striking than anything to come from my 5D....even with nice L glass, the 5D sometimes lets me down (just sometimes....) that being said, unless you dont specifically need the full-frame, maybe return it and ask for her to buy you a 20D and a nice 8 or 10mm fisheye lens - you can still take DIRTY pictures with that. good luck, sounds like your set either way
