Wow... WOW!!!!! Two of my top interests are underground things, and WWI. Combining them both would be totally sweet!

So... only 250 metres of the 12 mile system are open to the public because "Much of the network has collapsed, much else is extremely unsafe and French laws meant that there could be no question of opening any museum underneath private homes." I wonder how dangerous it really is. The catacombs in Paris have been officially declared "extremely unsafe" and off-limits, but tons of people explore them safely. I suppose the Arras tunnels must have some rusty, unexploded ammunition and grenades lying about... but I guess it would be safe as long as you didn't kick them around .

Has anyone tried checking out the Arras tunnels? I really really want to go! I am fascinated by WWI and by all things underground, and barely anyone has been in these tunnels for 90 years!

talk about UE that's incredible. Imagine finding a quarry/cave carved out during medieval/roman times which was later occupied by WW1 troops. im sure theres nothing left of the medieval history but the WW1 stuff would sure be interesting!
