| | Tyngsborough, MA: old railhouse (?) < on 3/12/2008 9:51 PM >
| | | By the old Tyngsborough Bridge (which I'm pretty sure they're gonna let crumble into the water, despite what residents are hoping) there's this old house below by the train tracks that I've always wondered about, since I was a kid. I always wondered if anyone lived in there or what the story was, and yesterday Dyce and I had an opportunity to go check it out.
There was some classic graffiti in here, I didn't bother with the obligatory anarchy symbol, but there was this:
and my favorite:
Here's why we didn't go to the second floor:
looked a little too dicey, especially considering the first floor was so haggard itself, even stepping in there took some courage.
lotsa peeling paint, sorry no lonely chairs.
Oh, P.S. does anyone know what this might be? It looks like this on both sides...
Later that night, wayyyyyy out on a powerline trail behind an old missile construction site around the corner from my house (don't get your hopes up, it's been completely levelled and refurbished for housing, but I think there might be ground contamination, which would explain the huge delays on the work) we found an abandoned car, which was kinda cool...

| | | Nice! Didn't get into the second floor? I wouldn't have let a few broken stairs stop me... not when your first pic showed an open window =]. If you return... bring a ladder [that or grappling hook or something]. Good find. Just out of curiosity: is it an active railway? or defunct? I have a few defunct RxR's around where I live and they're pretty cool to explore.

| | | I actually do have a pair of grappling hooks...the thing is I'm just not sure how solid the flooring is up there, as the building is condemned and slated for destruction, as far as I know...but yeah, maybe I'll give it a go. I do feel a lot safer with climbing gear strapped on ;) I THINK it might still be active, I meant to look into that. It does look fairly well kept...

| | | Cool to be able to see a place that you'd been curious about for so long! I'm seeing about seven dreaded red X's after picture number ten before the pictures are showing up again, though.

| | | No it wasn't a truck. That does look like a rabbit but Alexa thought it might be a Nissan, given that "N" that we saw on the back.
Drunvalo told me to do it. |

| | | Very cool explore. Just curious: is the Tyngsboro Bridge closed now? I crossed it many times in the 80s and I'm wondering what they plan to do to replace it. It seems very odd that they would let it get to that state. Cheers

On a building nearby there was some amusing graffiti about how the bridge has been closed for years, and there was like 7 or 8 tally marks, so it probably closed around 2000. There is an active bridge right there, but the old bridge is standing next to it with cement blocks preventing cars from crossing.

Ha, you're right. You can see the foundations of what is now the active bridge.

yup google earth is at least 1 year out of date, some places more. I found that windows live maps and the "birds eye function" have the most up to date maps.
