PS: 'Buy a bigger gun' may not be the answer to everything.

24 years ago I was hired to manage an adult bookstore in New Jersey USA.

I was told, by the owners, If you have a gun and shoot a holdup person you will get into alot more trouble than the holdup person.

Never got held up, but came really close.

The stories I could tell...

Who robs a porn shack? thats just dumb

+ the Siws all have guns and their crime rate is really low because no one wants to get shot.

2 years of Akido and paying very close attention to my environment keeps form getting my ass handed to me.
But sometime that doesn't always work.

Man I sorry to hear you got beat hope you get better soon.

im of the running ilk but have never had any reason to use either method, i try to be more aware of exits when im exploring and make careful note of what my options are should i need them

Too fucking right! I know people who blunder round and when it comes on top they haven't a clue. I tend to check for ways out and landmarks to easily get around as I explore so if it does go to shit, I can get out easy enough.

It's not legal to wander around with a gun in the UK* (where I live) hence the above would form my primary not getting the fuck kicked out of me tactic.

As far as I am aware, trespassing whilst carrying a firearm turns a misdemeanor into a felony and lands you in more shit. Granted each state will most probably have different laws but I can't see many straying from trespassing with a firearm = in the shit.

adult bookstores are primarily all cash businesses. I'd hardly call it a dumb place to rob.

on topic:
the OP did the right thing by getting the fuck out IMHO.
I have no shame in saying I would have done the same.

I'd much rather run away or try and fight my way out of those odds then kill someone.

Besides, in the situation I doubt he had the chance to unfold a firearm if he had one.. he got smacked in the head a couple of times before he even had the opportunity to make distance and run off, never mind un-folding a gun etc.. load the fuckin thing.. point it at the person .. fire a test round to prove it's real cause they will for sure be skeptical.

I'd rather be a gun crazy American than an internet trolling Aussie.

You are one hell of a fuck tard arn't you?
Clearly the use of the word "seriously" was indicating that the above was not serious. You are the troll you idiot. I wasn't picking on anyone. I wasn't having a go at anyone. But you decided to have a go at me. If there is anyone here that is a troll, you buddy are it. You're just playing games to be an asshole. I see through that.

I don't for one minute consider all Americans to be gun happy. The ones I've met rarely even talk about guns.

When we go out, normally we have at least one gun on us if not 2 and all of us carry a knife of some sort, so its nothing we had to worry about much...plus I'm a pretty big boy

Well you could simple say "Hey I was joking, bad joke..." rather than using a good assortment of perfectly useless profanities that are just ... feelings.

The original poster didn't have the option to run without getting the shit walloped out of him as he was trying to do so. He was very lucky.

Had I been in the same place, I would have wanted a gun, and I would have fired if i had it.
People who use deadly weapons, baseball bats, lead pipes (you know who you are and so do I!) to assault unarmed explorers deserve whatever they get, including a sudden death.
Otherwise I be tempted to charge the attacker rather than retreating, and the goal would be to reduce their weapons effectiveness, disarm, and/or to disable.
Never turn your back on an attacker unless your damn sure about what your doing!

Gordon Bombay is also a FM. Posting on hot threads (or creating them) like this one prolly isn't in your best interest unless you have a really good point to make.

That sounds logical and likely to me, but I know it's a heinous lie - because it runs contrary to everything BlackHawk is saying.

I doubt that our celebrated UE Expert could be wrong, so you must be Azubi. If BlackHawk says it's OK to take an assault rifle craftily disguised as a Rod Stewart Poster to an abandonment, then it must be true. Not only true, but an excellent idea also!

Sorry about that matey.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I thought was cute I prefer a .45 for close quarters fighting.
It's b. bastard to you....

Another reason to get permission to be on a site.
Your CW is than valid, but the law dictates in most states, when not on your property or property under your care, that unless your defending someone else's life, you are required to retreat whenever possible.

Not sure about NJ, but in PA if you blow away an armed store robber, even as they are fleeing, no charges will be filed. Just don't hit any bystanders.
Most states provide that you can use lethal force to defend your life, and livelihood against an armed assailant.

So as long as we remember to:

1. Get permission to be somewhere.
2. Carry a gun.

Well, that sounds perfectly like the description of UE that I know and love.

This is clearly excellent advice; jail is preferable to keeping a low profile, being sensible at a site and not getting a kicking.

Right.

Ive already learned so much from this thread!

- Bringing a knife (or a teenage aikido master ) to a gun fight is never good form!

- You can learn to run away and live to troll another day.

- Turbozutek secretly admires black "thats b.bastard to you" hawk.

- No matter what you say on UER you are wrong.

- The ratio of UERers that have been beaten to those that should be beaten is disproportionately low

sucks that happened to you man....more proof thats its best never to explore alone.....

sounds like we should organize an ass-kick-pex to show these thug douches how it feels to receive a beating...

i always carry a knife...also....anything can serve as a weapon...anything from a pencil, to a flashlight....anything that's solid and can be swung...just about anything at all...not to mention fists, elbows, feet, and knees....

running is a good option too....most definitely the best kind of defeat one can endure

I dont want this thread to get locked so please take all your bullshit to the 'Other' forum.

Here in Australia its almost impossible to obtain a concealed firearms licence, so that doesnt really help...

Im a chef so i know how to use my knives, but in the situation where a guy has a Baseball Bat and you have a 6" blade, I know who would win.

Next time Ill take mates with me.

Now I've got that feeling once again, I can't explain, You would not understand, This is not how I am... I have become, Comfortably Numb...

Probably the 'classic' description.

For me it's turning up without permission (or with permission, whatever works best), getting inside, taking some photos, having a laugh and not having to worry about if I have enough ammunition for my AK.

In nearly 8 years of doing this I've never once had an issue with someone beating me up, robbing me, or pushing my shit in. That's not because there haven't been moments where one or all of the above could happen, but simply because of sensible measures like not wandering about in the open and quietly leaving if the going looks rough.

WTF kinda definition do you nutjobs subscribe to where your taking knifes and guns out exploring??

In my opinion, anyone who thinks 'UE' is about getting as many guns together as possible and then battling evil-doers while taking photos;

IS A FUCKING MORON.
