Abandoned Cement Plant - Fairborn, OH

I decided to take advantage of the unseasonably nice weather today to check out one of the cement factories in Fairborn that I've been eyeing for a while. It's not the same building as the one I posted about a couple of weeks ago (which I mistook for a grain elevator), but it's not too far from that one. Through a bit of research, I determined that the one I posted about a couple weeks back is still active, but the one I explored today does not appear to be (however, there are several other facilities nearby that are).

Here's a few pics from outside the fences (it's enclosed by two sets of barbed wire fences--one around the entire field surrounding the facility, and one around the immediate facility itself).

After I got past the fences (not hard at all--if you spend just a few minutes meandering around the perimeter, you'll see what I mean):

Since my trip was a spur of the moment sort of thing, I didn't think to have a flashlight on me. I decided to venture down into the basement and actually had to use my camera flash to see where I was going. It was fun. I saw and heard lots of important ghosts, one of which you can see in the second picture of this section in all his ectoplasmic glory.

I climbed an extremely long staircase, which led from the bottom level all the way up to the roof. The view was breathtaking. You can literally see for miles around. In the first picture here, you can actually see the other, aforementioned cement factory off in the distance.

As luck would have it, while up on the roof, I spotted a pickup truck parked right by where I had gotten through the inner fence. It had not been there when I had entered an hour or so earlier. So, I decided it was time to end my adventure and head back down to the ground level to try to get out without being noticed. I tried looking for any other ways out other then the way I came in, but to no avail. Being the resourceful fellow I am, I was actually able to use my camera's zoom to determine that there was nobody in the pickup truck. So, I cautiously made my way out the same way I came in, walking right past this recently parked pickup truck without detection. Not sure what the deal was with that, but it rattled me enough that I probably won't be going back anytime soon. Got some nice pics, though.

Nicely done! Looks like an awesome place.

I was kicking myself for having to work today, it was perfect 'splorin weather out and there are a few buildings I have my eye on.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Won't you help me, Mr. Jesus, Won't you tell me, if you can

I know. I had so much stuff I wanted to get done this weekend, and I had promised myself I'd just go exploring on Saturday morning. But the weather was so nice today, I couldn't resist. I can't wait for spring.
