Definition of Terms
Spam- This is unsolicited junk email/private messages
Moderator- This is a person who helps keep this forum clean
Administrator- This is a person who helps keep the forum running (Behind the scenes work)

1. Posting

a. New Threads
To create a new thread, there are two things you have to do:
i. Find the appropriate category for the thread. For example,
Rooftop Infiltration would not be in the Other category,
as it pertains to Urban Exploration. However, Midterms Help would
go into the other category.
ii. Click on the New Thread icon, located at the top of the page
And then you type out your new post, and hit Post New Thread. If you
wanted to attach an image, then just hit Attach an Image to browse
your hard drive. When creating a thread, you may attach a poll to it.
Please note: Images cannot contain any pornography or the such.

b. Replies
To reply to a thread, just click the Reply button. When replying to a
thread, you can attach only an image. In replies, as well as new threads,
you can modify the following:
a. type of text
-aa. bold
-ab. italic
-ac. underline
-ad. strikethrough
b. text color
c. center text
d. highlight
e. sub/super script
f. inserting a:
-aa. list
-ab. code
-ac. pre-formatted text
-ad. email address
-ae. URL
-af. horizontal line
-ag. image
c. Modifying
On this forum, there is a neat feature that allows you to edit posts if you have
spelling mistakes, grammar errors, or the like.
Notice the bold? The edit function
isn't meant for people who want to delete their entire posts after people have
responded, or after people give them bad feedback about something. You could get in
serious trouble for deleting your entire post, so don't do it.

2. Personalization

a. Interface
UER offers different interfaces for viewing this forum. They are listed below.
-aa. UER - for uer.ca (fid 1)
-ab. Infiltration - for infiltration.org (fid 3)
-ac. Wraiths - for wraiths.org (fid 4)
-ad. UE Montreal - for uem.minimanga.com (fid 5)
-ae. UE Quebec - for ueq.minimanga.com (fid 7)
-af. Sub-Urban Exploration - for urbanimages.org (fid 8)

Let's cover the fid tag. This tag tells UER's server what interface to
open. For example, the Wraiths forum would be http://www.uer.ca/forum_showcats.asp?fid=4
b. Your Profile
On all interfaces, you can access/edit/save your very own profile. At the top of each page, there is a
button named Profile. Clicking on this will bring you to a page that contains a large amount of information.
Right now I will break that all down for you.
-aa. Basic Information
This section contains information you registered with, such as email, username (can't be changed), screenname (can be changed),
and your password.
-ab. Optional Information about you
You don't have to fill this section out, it's totally optional. Fields listed are age, gender and location.
-ac. Website
These fields are for if you have a website. If you don't have a website, don't worry - many people don't.
-ad. Contact Information
Again, these fields apply to you if you have a AIM or YIM or ICQ number. It is optional.
-ae. Personal Picture
Also known as Avatars, these little pictures make nice little additions to your profile. Personal pictures are also visible
next to each post you make. Again, Avatars are optional. There is a field where you can input text to be displayed under your avatar.
Some people think that avatars are a waste of time, it's totally up to you. There is also a Time offset from MST field. This is
a feature that allows both you and other users to see what time it is in your part of the world. I really don't know how to set it, I
just played around with it for a half-an-hour or so. Under that field is a new box that asks you how you want your date and time displayed.
I won't tell you what to do, for it is quite self-explanatory. The next (and last) box says Signature. Your signature is displayed
on the bottom of every post you make.

c. Subscriptions
UER allows you to 'subscribe' to locations, that is, recieve notifications when a specific location becomes revised. You recieve notifications
via a box at the bottom of the forum home page. It will show up if you are on any interface, be it UER, Infiltration, Wraiths, or what have you.
You have the ability to subscribe to Entire Countries, states/provinces, or specific locations. You can unsubscribe to locations at any time you
wish to.

3. Methods of Communication
UER allows you numerous different ways of communication with other users. They are described below.
a. Chat
There is a built in chat program on UER. It is located at http://www.uer.ca/chat
b. Private Messages
The private message feature allows you send an 'email' to anyone who is a member of this forum. It works just like an email does, except it
only sends 'emails' to inside of the forum.
c. Emails
The email feature can only send emails to verified members of UER, not to your aunt, not to your dad (unless they are UER members).
d. Private Boards
You can create your own mini-forum, via the Private board feature. With this feature, you create your own board, and you are the moderator--
which means you can delete the posts of members of your forum, etc. The same forum rules apply on these boards as they do on the regular boards.
e. Instant Messenger Links
If the user has entered in their profile their AIM or YIM or ICQ screennames, then under their avatar there is an icon that shows up (be it the
little AIM man, the ICQ flower, or the YIM 'y'). By clicking on this link, a new window will pop up that will say the user's AIM/YIM/ICQ screenname
and have the default message entered in ("Hi!"). This only works if AIM/YIM/ICQ is installed, and is active.
If a UER member is spamming you through any means of board communication, you must report this member immediately to one of the moderators
or to Avatar-X ([email protected])

Creating a new location is one of the simplest things you can do.
a. Find the appropriate location for the new location. Obviousely, 'Whitby Psychiatric Hospital'
in Whitby (Canada) would NOT belong in the USA category.
b. Scroll to the bottom of the page, where it should say. <i>Create new location</i>.
This should be located under the category "Tasks".

6. Helping the forum
There are many ways to help keep UER.ca running -
a. Donate Money to Avatar-X
All money that Avatar-X recieves from forum members goes directly to help pay for hosting UER.ca. Hosting
such a high-traffic site is not cheap. Avatar-X regularly pays for the forum out of his own pocket.

b. Abide by the rules
By abiding by the rules, you have the ability to put less of a strain on the moderators/administrators of
this forum.

There will be many more sections to come.
