LARGE POST!!!
< on 2/23/2008 5:21 PM >

Hi! Just wanted to ask a question. I'm about to post my newest set, but it's got 81 photo's in it. Normally I wouldn't hesitate to split up the photos into manageable sizes (30 or less) But the trouble is that lately I've been posting my sets like stories. If I chop up the set, which is a total of 5 pages of text and photo's, I fear that people might get lost between sets. So my dilemma: Should I chop up my set, or just post it with an extreme size warning?

Do it in four chapters, we can figure it out.

Chop out any pictures that are subpar or don't add to the story, be fucking ruthless. I would certainly rather look at 20 great pictures that relate to the story you're telling than seeing the extra 60 that aren't.

Your work will be better received if you present it well and make it easy for the viewer. Seriously unless they're all spectacular shots chop some out!

I'd say don't use more then 20. That's really enough. You just need to be more critical. I've recently uploaded 15 images for the same location on my blog, and although I really liked the 200 some odd images I had, these ones show different aspects of the same building. That's the most I ever posted.

Yeah, after waiting more than 10-20 seconds for the window to open on a high speed connection... it gets old fast. Makes it a pain to open.

flickr is alright if you want to pay $24 a year for the service. Otherwise I think the limit is 200 shots.

I find it hard to believe that you need 80 photos to tell the story. Gotta edit yourself...none of us walk around with gold and rainbows spewing out of our assholes all day. If you do then, hey, should be a hell of a story.

Well I've chopped it up into four separate post, averaging from 11 to 30 pics in each. The reason why there are so many is because I've actually been to the place 3 times but for some reason always forgot to photograph the place where all the STUFF WAS! There where originally over 170 pic, so I've already reduces as many pics as I deemed worthless or redundant. Wish me luck.

If your not sure upload them to flickr to get some feedback. Really people have poor attention spans and 10 photos can really shed light on a building.

I chopped it again. One set still had 37 pics, so I reduced it to 24 and put the other 13 into another set, making it into 5 sets total.

Set 2 of 5 could have been cut down to 6 photos. Maybe less. One suggestion might be to start with cutting out shots that are virtual duplicates to other shots or that do not add anything new or further tell the story of the location.

I might add that there are very few locations that are interesting enough for 81 photos being posted. With respect, I wouldn't say this location appears to be one of them.

It is good advice to cut your pictures down as much as possible, but you must do what you feel is right for what you are trying to accomplish. You come across as excited to show us a place and I think that is great. In this case since the focus is on the location, I don't see why so many pictures is a problem.

That said, if you were coming off as an arrogant asshole, my opinion might be quite a bit different.

Que pasa, baby?
