I have observed a rather large boat/barge for the last year. As far as i can tell it has been completely abandoned. Its seems like at one time it may have been used as some sort of party boat or perhaps even a residence on the water. Its a two story building anchored in Burrard Inlet. Its boarded up and certain parts of the boat have a fence blocking access. It is easily viewable from the Barnet Hwy or down by the shore. Some point during the near future i want to get a canoe or something and check it out.

Anyone have any idea what it is? Or what its doing there.

That would be the old McBarge, floating McDonalds restaurant from Expo 86. It was towed there after the fair where it has been anchored ever since. Various owners had various plans for it (floating restaurant) but nothing has ever happened. I heard that it's hard to get appropriate zoning and permits for that kind of thing. A few years ago it started to list quite badly, and was in danger of sinking, but it has since been repaired. I know they've used it for at least one movie shoot recently. There is a thread about it on this board, with some photos, just do a search for "McBarge". Jester and his group explored it years ago, there is a write up and photos on his site www.wraiths.ca

I think that's it, not sure who owns it now.

I want to go!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!
