I don't know about you guys, but I find World's Fair stuff to be awesome. So much work and time and money is put into fancy buildings that frequently have no use after the fair leaves.

Ever since seeing the 1996 episode of the Simpsons "Bart on the Road", I've wanted to know more about the Sunsphere in Knoxville -- specifically, I wanted to explore it. But not having a way to get down there, I was glad to find this video:

Enjoy.

That was an informative video, thanks for the link. I had wondered what the real Sunsphere actually looked like after seeing that Simpsons episode but just never thought to look anything up about it.

Thanks again!

You used to be able to go up in it, I think there was a restaurant in it or something of that nature. It's really easy to look at, but I've never actually tried to get into it. it's in knoxville's worlds fair park, i've been to a ton of concerts next to it. we call it the giant golden microphone.

It looks like a huge golden cock!

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I really get tired of seeing that thing. It really clashes with everything else on the city skyline.

What, no real pics? Too bad. If the simpsons images were accurate, it looks like a fun place to go exploring.

It is now a restaurant and catering business. They also have weddings and receptions there too. But this has only just happened in the past year. It sat vacant for many, many years

Show up at 9:30 with 15 dollars cash and your fingers crossed.
