Well however you decide to go in, you'd be best to have construction worker-looking gear on. The vast majority of motorists, as has been pointed out, are oblivious to their surroundings and just want to get where they are going with as little hassle as possible. A couple of construction workers milling around a big ol' building are going to be invisible to them.

But as I said, look busy and with a purpose, like you're "on the job". If you look at all hesitant and look around furtively you'll be pegged immediately.

Now - go for it!

Simple.

Go on a Sunday, during the morning or daytime. Nobody will be working in the demo site, and since it's during the day you won't need lights inside, reducing your visibility from the outside and having the added advantage of being able to see pretty much anything inside. Take a little care not to stick your head out of any windows, and it's unlikely that anyone outside will be able to see you.

As far as entering, just scope it out, choose a smart route in and be quick. Choose a time when it seems like few people are looking, but don't obsess about it being a dead zone before you make your move. Chances are, nobody cares. Just get in without being too obvious (or too sneaky, I'd notice someone walking with their back to the wall or darting from tree to tree looking for cover well before I'd notice someone just walking in) and go about your exploration. If the cops come, it looks like a big enough place where you can either hide it out or lose them on your way out; if you choose to run at all. They wouldn't send in more than two people after you.

We glamorize the things we do to a certain degree because we are a community of people who share the same hobby; and because it makes them seem more exciting. To the rest of the world, it's probably just some guy going into a building; and whether or not he belongs there or not is likely of less importance than where they are headed or what they are thinking about.

Go in, enjoy the building, and don't sweat the small stuff.

We'll probably go with the early-AM Sunday. It seems to make the most sense. I can handle getting in no problem, it was just minimizing the indoor risks that I was most concerned about. I'm not too terribly worried about the police coming. They'll be relieved I'm not a crackhead and, with any luck, lecture me on trespassing as they escort me out. That is, if they find me. lol

It'll be an early morning so I shouldn't be spotted at all but yeah, we won't dress as ninjas for this one.

I will. I need to find out some kind of demolition schedule for the school. I don't want to wait on it too long.. But as long as it stays cold here, I'm holding off. It was +10c here last week.. -15c today, feels like -25c. We did an abandoned hospital in December and, even though we thought we were dressed appropriately, froze our asses off.

i hear ya on the cold. i'm trying to figure out when i could get into a site that they may start demolition on as soon as february (unless i can actually convince them to let the DEC do a full assessment of the environmental hazards there. there are plenty to speak of and i am actually concerned since the site is situated near a river and uphill from 2 schools.) it's been between 10 and 20 degrees (farenheit) here lately, but apparently this sunday there's supposed to be a high of 36 and a low of 25. that may be the best chance i have.

My best advice to you would be to make people think you're supposed to be there.

For example, dress as a construction worker and pretend you lost your key or something.

http://cat.org.au/~predator/approach.txt

There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop...

Soo.. I was back to this location to do a walk-around. I snapped some pictures to better illustrate my trip.

Looking at what is now ER parking (was school parking), facing Robie St. Construction is behind me.
