Smart cameras?

Some mention of these things in that hospital thread. Sounds like they're linked to facial recognition software of sorts? Are they something I have to worry about here in England? We've tons of cameras, but as far as I know, mostly just vanilla sorts. Anyway, I'm curious as to what they do, how well they do it, and what these things look like.

I know a facial recognition program that says I look like Rene Zellweger. I wouldn't be worried as it would be she who receives trespassing charges and not me.

Lol, I don't know if a professional version of facial recognition would be more sophisticated, but they would have to have a picture of you somewhere on file to match it to.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom.

Awesome! I wonder how many trespassing fines she's been issued.

I'm more worried about her infiltration antics getting me in trouble.

Why not try Google instead of UER for this?

(any 7th grader can find this http://news.zdnet....595_22-530791.html in less than 1 minute)

Face recogniz'n software/technology requires a database just like fingerprints

If I showed you a picture of my face right now how would you use it to ID me

hint: my SSN isnt tattoo'd on my forehead anywhere

I think you dont have to worry about this for now, unless you are infiltrating a secured area at an airport AND your face is already on record with The Man somewhere for some reason.

License plate recognition is another matter. Dallas and Houston PD already have this, paid for by the insurance industry to help recover stolen vehicles. And Im told they use it at the U.S. Mexico border for this reason as well, but maybe they will expand the scope of this technology to ID known UER members that post their rides in the "show your ride" threads. Im sure dsankt's Angry Truck is already in the Federal database!

Don't give them ideas

Yes they do facial recognition, they can tell the race even of a person. It's not the camera that makes it smart necessary; some systems will use any fixed plain jane camera for the computer's eyes. It's all computer and software; $20G will buy a three camera system that works very well, and does some very sophisticated surveillance. Just hook your cameras to the controller, and configure the software.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Whilst I'm sure any seventh grader can find that article, it doesn't really answer much of what I asked. Thanks anyway though, it was kind of reassuring. It seems like someone posting the wrong photo on Facebook is much more likely to get you into trouble for now.

youre right, I shouldve said 5th grader

(I got 1,860,000 hits on Google and Im a college dropout! Surely you can find one that will satisfy your curiosity.

the rational person might conclude that the government wont be developing a collection of random citizen faces or collecting mugshots from every booking of class A misdemeanor offenders from every precinct in hopes of capturing your face on tape for the purpose of identification ie. recognition...

as soon as they link this vast network to Myspace, red light cameras, drivers license photos and voter registration look out! they'll be send the Marshall after you for dodging jury duty! Your only hope will be a Nixon mask to go with your tin foil hat.

you do vote right?

Google gives as many hits to college dropouts as it does everyone else, really though I just wanted people's opinions from an exploring perspective. I'm sure UER won't begrudge me the bandwidth.
