If the admins want to give us the ability to change names, we should not be penalized, or BRANDED WITH SOME MADE-UP NAME FROM ANOTHER WEBSITE, for doing so.

That's a good point Max, but the reason I put this poll on here, and I believe the reason why Av did that was because it can be exceedingly confusing when you're changing nicknames like some change underwear.

What I'd be cool with as a compromise would be that you can change your nicknames, but at the bottom of your post, where your signature is, a history of all the nicknames you've had.

I don't really like that feature too much.

I've gotten really confused about some people here, that I finally started to remember and then they changed their user name.

For example, I thought that Fjaell Raeven had left the forum for good, because I didn't see him in a long time, but then I once happened to look that Marx dude and hey, it's the same guy

And there are others too...

That's not too bad an idea ExKal, however in the case of someone like Max Action, their signature would eventually be about 80 lines long - and that's just damned boring.

First off, I think we all know Max is schyzo - I think he should be free to represent himself here how he feels. It's not hard to check his ID and figure out who he is.

Second, I'm sure Max, more than anyone gets battered wherever he goes by wanna-be's who have read his site - kinda like Bill Shatner and Trek fans - If he needs to keep his name changed simply to avoid being bombarded on this or other websites then he should be able to.

Thirdly, even though he is rarely on topic when he does post he makes me laugh my ass off - A lot of folks around here have their egos too inflated and it gets stuffy - let him run around with his pin and pop the baloons now and again - it lets in a little fresh air.

Fourthly, I would rather see Max involved our conversations here as a regular participant - lately he's only had time to bitch and dicker with the mods about a bunch of bullshit - if you left him alone I'm sure he'd be a much better citizen. We all have limited time to invest here.

If that doesn't work then maybe bap him in the nose with a rolled up newspaper - but really he's not as big a distration as some of the mods are trying to make him out to be. The distraction seems to be the converstations about and the mods reaction to his behavior more than his actual behavior.

The question is: WHO REALLY GIVES A SHIT IF PEOPLE EASILY KNOW WHO I (or anyone else) AM (is)?

Does a joker in the pack, a wild card or four, really ruin the messageboard? Is a little uncertainty, a little safe chaos, so hard for rigid minds to deal with?

If I want to be whoever I want to, and change weekly, who GIVES A SHIT? WHY WHY WHY does it matter?

Agh!

I say let em change it, that's why Av added the name history function. Anyways, it't not like you can't tell who Max is, he has a pretty unique writing style.

"Because there's no possibility of real disaster, real risk, we're left with no chance for real salvation. Real elation. Real excitement. Joy. Discovery. Invention. The laws that keep us safe, these same laws condemn us to boredom. Without access to true chaos, we'll never have true peace. Unless everything can get worse, it won't get any better." -Chuck Palahniuk

I think people should be allowed to change their names on occaision, if there's a good reason for it.

However, some people abuse this feature. I've now implemented a function whereby people who abuse this feature can be blocked from modifying their profile.

I've been blocked from changing my profile in any way now, lovely!

Plus some jerkass named me "Max Action."

That is NOT my name. I did NOT pick that name.

I have not gone by that name on here for a very long time.

Fix it!

Quit being such a damned turd, for the love of god! That stick in your butt has GOT to hurt!

Av, quit being such a ramrod. I have the right to choose what name I am on here with, even if I cannot change it from then out.

So change me to "Bazooka!" and leave it at that.

Sorry, but you have no rights here. None whatsoever. You are not any more important than anyone else here, nor do your demands weigh in with any more importance. You've abused this forum and now this forum is kicking back.

Was there a rule about changing names? No.

There was a feature added which showed what names a person went by, whcih was fine.

Now you take the ability to change names away, which IS your right ... but also, without ANY WARNING, stick me with a stupid name I DO NOT WANT AND HAD NOT EVEN USED FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS.

You chose what link would be my homepage, what name I would use, etc, and I have no control. Why? For every few weeks using a feature that YOU programmed in, with NO LIMITATIONS POSTED OR DISCUSSED as to how it could be used.

You are in the wrong; let me change my name, URL, etc.

I AM BAZOOKA!

Allow me to quote from the agreement you agreed to when you created your account:

You have the ability, as you register, to choose your username. We advise that you keep the name appropriate.

Some of the names you have chosen to use recently have been inappropriate. As such, you are not in accordance with this agreement.

Anyway, it's pretty clear you've been abusing the profile feature. If you don't like the static information that's been placed into your profile, kindly leave this forum. Thank you.

Honestly, for someone that doesn't want special treatment and his ass kissed just because he's max action, you sure sound like you're pissed because your ass isn't being kissed because you're max action...

I don't think Max needs his ass kissed in any way - though I do think everyone here should recognize his contributions to the UE community.

Here's a stupid question that will probably get me banned or into an argument, maybe I'm being nieve and I admit to not be involved in NameGate, in fact I've never changed my ID but here goes...

Av- Did you ever ASK Max to stop abusing the profile feature?

Max- If Av asked you to stop abusing the profile feature why did you insist on continuing to do so?

Calling each other dicks and saying "come on man" isn't going to resolve this problem. Is this just an ego clash?

Does someone like me has to tell you that you are my two most respected role-models in the UE community. YES! Eventhough you hate each other you share the top honors for inspiring me. Are your egos suffciently stroked now? Can we get on with it?

Your little dick waving contest is getting fairly boring and seems to consume more and more of your attentions and I think that is the main beef that EVERY OTHER USER on the forum has - more than Max's identity crisis' , more than Avatar X's seemingly dictitorial decision to remove Max's rights to modify his profile. Maybe we should setup an ignore feature so you just don't see each others posts...

So, here's what you guys need to do - GO FUCKING EXPLORE SOMETHING!
