Where are some good places to explore around the Ann Arbor area or city limits?

I heard the U of M tunnels, but have yet to get around to that.

Also, I'm looking to put together a group for MCS (Michigan Central Station) to go sometime during 2008. If anyone would be interested, please leave a reply.

Hey...

Check out the old Fischer body plant. If you are new to this kind of thing, and you don't really want any surprises, this is a good pick. It is uninhabited but interesting.

Link: http://brnation.d2...troit_michigan.htm

Worth noting that any night exploration with bright lights in abandoned buildings will attract police attention. Use an LED headlamp, preferably red, which will not show much from the exterior of the building. Or NVGs, if you can find surplus. Flash photography can be a problem, use only in rooms without exterior windows (at night anyway).

Detroit police are, on the whole, not really concerned about UE unless you are causing problems. They have far too many other things to worry about. They will, however, think you are nuts.

Also, Fischer is full of asbestos, bring a face mask or respirator. Hate to sound parental, but I am still having problems from contaminants I inhaled more than a decade ago, and in old industrial sites, professionals wear full body chemguard tyvek jumpsuits (ie, "space suits"). At the very least, wear a particulate mask and be prepared to throw away the clothes and shoes if necessary.

I'm always up for a good exploring romp. I live in Hamtramck, and there are some cool buildings near my area (including an abandoned funeral home) that could be explored as well

I'm in Ann Arbor. Anyone's free to PM me for suggestions. (Though the pickings are relatively limited here, be warned.)

I'm extremely interested in going to MCS someday. I live in Lansing so it's a good 1.5 to 2 hour drive for me... but man, I'd love to go.

I explored the station by myself during the Winter of '99 but I haven't been back there since. I heard that there were some proposals to renovate it over the past few years, but I don't know if anything actually came of it.
If anyone would like to explore it one of these weekends, I would be happy to accompany you, although I'm not sure how accessable it is these days.

You won't find a whole lot in Ann Arbor. But there is all kinds of stuff in Detroit. I'm down for going to MCS, just let me know a week or 2 ahead when you are thinking about going.

I work in downtown Detroit six days a week. I've explored a few buildings in the Grand Circus Park area, but my better half hates the fact that I explore alone. It doesn't stop me, but maybe she has a point. If anyone is up for a good beer(I know a great bar on broadway), and some exploration, send me a message. A trip to MCS would be sweet, let me know when you plan on going.

What about Tiger Stadium? I was in Detroit in January and if i was with people who where of the "exploring" background it would have been an easy access.

To my knowledge they have started the demolition of Tiger Stadium. They are saving some of it though. I know some people who went in and I know how but I haven't tried and don't plan on it.

My friend i was there three weeks ago, and no demo had happened. What is happening is the removal of items such as seats and other memorabilia. I talked to someone involved in the process yesterday, and he had said that the city still doesnt have a contract with a demo company due to the lack of funds available right now to do it right.

Also, are you refiring to "Mel" the friendly security guard? Im sure hes not there any more.

To All:

I'm currently trying to gather a group for MCS. You all seem pretty interested and I've replied to quite a few of you, and so I'm really hoping that we can do this.

Of course we all realize the illegal side of this, and i will admit that yes it will be dangerous, but if there is quite a few of us well be safer. I know that we all know the not so great perks of UE, but if you guys all still wanna go, id be glad to get a trip set up near late April early Mayish.

send me an email @ [email protected]

or hit me up on aim @ omfg its bobbie.

thanks for the cooperation,

Bobbie
