| | | It's kind of difficult finding some the old gun positions and other military relics, some are overgrown and you need to be right on top of them to know they're there.

| | | Well, if anybody's feeling up to sneaking around DND property, you could always go onto the Naval Damage Control and Fire training centre grounds and check out Sandwich Point Battery. http://www.wikimap...4&z=16&l=0&m=a&v=2 SP Battery is under the crosshairs.

| | | The road between the golf course and the beach has an old gun emplacemnet(??) about 25 yards away from the street, ive checked it out, and you might be able to gain access if you really want to, the place is almost invisible in the summer, but its built into the hill and chances are it has tunnles leading up and away from the water, under the golf course and in all likleyhood to where the spotting tower used to be. If anyone wanted to volunteer a trip there (no car) id be more then happy to check it out again. P.S i had no idea there were still gun emplacements (these arn't what im talking about) on the golf course, you cant see them from the road [last edit 3/4/2008 7:48 PM by moneywagon - edited 1 times]

| | | On the Devil's Point history sie it also says one of the magazines was 30ft (!) underground, wouldn't that be cool to get inside of if possible, im sure its still there, they rarely fill in things like those more than a foot or 2 from the surface.

| | | That place has gone in and out of business as long as ive lived here, a few good restaurants over the years but none have lasted, i would think its alarmed and it probably doesn't have anything to interesting inside, but it might be worth a look, not a good place to do unauthorized exploring though, copshop a few hundred feet down the road.

Actually, there are three, you can see them on Google Earth/Wikimapia (I highlighted the area on Wiki), and you have to go up that side road near that bunker at the head of the road to see the gun emplacements. And the tunnels go all over the place under the course, but not up to the tower on Flandrum Hill. Me and N250cc went in the basement and saw no tunnel access. When we went up, we parked my car in front of that gate near the bunker at the head of that side road. Three patrol cars drove by and didn't even look (or at least the last one didn't, and there was no ticket on the windshield).

I know where one of the magazines are, but you can't get down unless you had a plasma cutter and something/someone to lift an ammo elevator out of the way. It's definitely not filled in or flooded, I threw a rock down and you could hear it hit cement at the bottom.

Which fire hall?? The one out in Ferguson's Cove at Sandwich Point Battery?? If so, it's actually quite active, used by the Navy for training in case there's a fire on board any of the ships (more than likely these days). From what I can tell, they're using the battery for storage and whatnot.

| | | On Wikimapia, I found this place about 10 clicks down the road from the Villa and I have no clue as to what it is. Here's a link to the place, it's right under the crosshairs. It kinda looks like some sort of military facility, but it doesn't seem likely considering how far out it is. Here's the same thing on Google so that there's not highlighted area: Google Maps

| | | Interesting find... Those almost look like targets at the far north-eastern end, so I was almost inclined to say some sort of range...but the "mound" at the south-western extreme looks quite tall, too tall to be used to shoot from. Then again, I'm no expert at weapons! That other area to the north-west is peculiar, with all of those objects surrounding the perimeter.

| | | If it doesn't snow this weekend, I might go up on either Friday or Saturday sometime. I got some UE'ing to catch up on, and I hate staying inside all the time. So if I get up, I'll let you know. BTW: the length of the main stretch is 1.1km and it's exactly 10km down the road from the Villa.

The address of this facility is kind of confusing... By the looks of what I'm reading, this facility should be listed under Mount Uniacke, NS... It was to be a potential spot for the shooting competitions associated with the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Halifax. It isn't abandoned, its just closed for the off-season. I wouldn't recommend creeping around there in the spring/summer/fall because you may wind up getting shot at.
BULL MEADOW Located in Mount Uniacke, the Bull Meadow Range Complex operated by the Nova Scotia Rifle Association occupies 1,900 acres of land and supports a 900-metre range. Sport: Shooting (C & T) Seating Capacity: 2,500
Modifications: New ranges were going to be constructed, including an indoor range and the outdoor range was going to be widened. Landscaping and site development were also proposed. Capital Investment: Approximately $3.9 million Post-Games: This site would have benefit from significant upgrades, including new ranges and a new facility for future shooting events. Distance from Commonwealth Park: 39.8 km or 43 minutes
