| | | Posted by MutantMandias I am going to drive home in a little while. Should I speed? What if I want to get there sooner? Would that justify speeding?
|
slap-slap! Speeding isn't a felony... normally. I speed like a fucking Super Sabre, but my record's clean... still that's not even the same thing as a felony property crime! Not close. No hobby is worth a felony conviction; this isn't ethics, it's common sense. Forget military service, forget owning a gun, forget government jobs, and expect trouble getting jobs and housing. To see a mall? Why not a miniature golf parking lot? I miss mikey jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesze....

Tell that to the UER members that have been convicted of B&E. Most are no longer here...

If it's truly abandoned, it's not B&E in most (all?) states. Cops will concern themselves with any property crime that involves destruction or forced entry. Walking around a place that's open is a lot different then forcing your way inside and/or defeating alarm systems. Giving them lip is a good way to get charged or get a ride... but if your B&E your going for a ride anyway more than likely. B&E also opens the door for other parasites, both natural and human that destroy the structure prematurely.

You must be kidding. Tell me you're kidding. Personally, I got slapped with burglary in the 2nd degree (INTENT to steal shit) and possession of burglary tools (a flashlight). I then spent the night in jail. The judge recommended that I stay in jail for the next 6 weeks before my court date. Somebody was nice enough to bail me out, anyway. The charges were later dismissed and exchanged for trespassing and 1 year probation, but still. If you talked to those cops the night we got caught, you'd think that abandoned building was the mother fucking Pentagon.
Sorry, I probably forgot my <sarcasm> tags. |

Generally getting caught after sunset is more likely to end up with charges; the vandals tend to come out at night. Obviously if there is no light inside a place, night doesn't matter as long s there's no light leakage to the outside. I try to be very selective about the use of night time concealment because of this. With cops sometimes being more obvious is better. Because faint light is better than none for safety and pic taking, I try to operate during daylight hours to spite the fact I'm a nocturnal bastard; pre-dawn walk ins/outs and blacked out sites are the only exceptions. I've been busted with 2 flash lights, tac binocs and full web gear. No tools or gloves though, and a ton of photographic gear. Cops didn't say a word about the flash lights or the binocs; they did check my water to make sure it wasn't vodka Had it been nighttime they would have fried my ass, I'm sure. Also be very wary of wandering about residential areas at night; that's a good way to rack up prowling charges. Best not to try a cop's sensibilities to hard because they'll just start throwing charges at you. Walk softly and carry a big camera... I guess. maybe.

Dead on Blackhawk. B&E is a sure fire way to get screwed, and probably both literally and figuratively. My only advice is to look for ANY accessible points, don't be stupid and start breaking shit open as it attracts unnecessary attention. And i agree with another good point that Blackhawk made. Time of day really plays a big factor in what you'll be charged with. Nighttime isn't gonna be a slap on the wrist, but more likely a nice ride to jail.

| | | I agree with joeyofnepal. Don't bring anything incriminating (unless you absolutely think you must). The fewer people who get arrested for UE, the better for everyone. (I don't want to get into an existential argument on moral truth...) But really, if you bring stuff along, try to have "credibility" props not "I'm up to something stupid" props. Before you put on that black ninja suit, think to yourself, "Self, what will a cop think if they see me dressed like this?" And really, camouflage DOESN'T make you blend-in when you're in an urban environment. It does the opposite. PS I bring a camera along, partly because it gives me confidence, since if a cop asks me the horrid "can I help you?," I can just say I'm taking pictures of stuff for my art hobby. It's actually completely true, so that helps with confidence. PPS, if a cop rolls by, don't ever jump behind a guard rail or something retarded like that. For the times that you're the most visible (like, if you're scouting out a place), you also seem the least suspicious, at least if you make it a point to act non-suspiciously. It's the job of cops to notice suspicious behavior (or at least that's what they think their job is), so just look normal, like you've walked past that place every day of your life, and they won't even notice you. Kind of like dogs. They can smell fear. [last edit 12/17/2007 11:42 PM by Robin(MN) - edited 1 times]
