Portland is seriously lacking things to explore. Here, buildings don't stay derelict for long. NW had some nice looking buildings, but they didn't stay like that for long and they're now frseh spankin new looking store fronts and condos.

I'm newly in Portland as of September and I'd be down to go exploring with anyone who's interested. I'm not particular familiar with the area yet though, so I can't really be of help in identifying locations. No car hurts things too, but public transit is pretty good, just gotta plan ahead.

We should plan something for a place they were talking about on meetup.

Im gonna be there in a few months for a week. PM me around April and maybe we could hook up. Not in that way.

Since this thread was already started...

I'll be in the Everett/Snohomish area the 14-18th of this month. Tom? Anything new since I've been there last?

I'm up for a day or two (or night).

I'll be spending Valentines weekend in Seattle en route to Fairbanks... absolutely looking to do some marathon trips-- couple, 3, 4 sites if it could seriously be laid on. Nothing like the anonymity of a rental! Cheers

Portland is like a UE black hole, you will have to travel outside of the metro area to find the really good sites and most of those are in the process of being torn down and redeveloped. Not to mention with all the meth heads around trying to salvage scrap metals, security has be stepped up at a lot of places.

Like the Fairview asylum complex down in Salem, The NW side of the campus already has new houses built that are right up to the existing buildings.

And Dammasch, that place is scrap metal treasure trove. Security has been stepped up there big time.

Not anymore.

There is a occupied new housing development only 100 yards away from the main LEC complex. Clack county sheriff and the Wilson PD have been checking the property regularly since it is known as a hot spot for squatters. Which sucks since the main building is nearly 95,000 sqft and has the modern ruin feel to it.

Kinda ironic how close it is to Dammasch.

Anyways, if anyone wants to take the risk of exploring the site, think about it soon. The developer who bought the LEC and the city are planning on demolishing the site for new housing.

Just keep in mind, it is a guarantee you will run into other people.

Well...it used to be the Callahan Center which was for workmans comp-related treatment.

They really are going to go ahead and demo it? I know the Villebois people were considering to not fully demo it, but just keep the main building because it has a swimming pool.

They were planning on turning it into a community center, but the last word is that scrapping it and putting up more houses is better option.
