This was a great exploration a friend and I did over the summer, the place is in a very small town about 15 minutes from where I live. It's practically falling apart, and I think there's currently a construction crew working on tearing it down.

I passed by it today and it doesn't look like they've done anything to it. The construction crew was tearing down a smaller mill that was part of this one when we went here, I just assumed they'd eventually move onto the main building. In my area there's an abundance of abandoned mills, most of which were owned by Avondale when they were active. A good majority of them closed after the train wreck in Graniteville, SC which resulted in chlorine gas being leaked into the area, so I'm a little hesitant about going to those.

We had SUEPLEX there I believe. Not a bad place to tramp around. If the other place was burnt out, as much as I enjoy abandoned buildings it was extremely dangerous.

There's no construction crews working on Clearwater. The owner hasn't decided what to do with it yet, but he told me that he hopes to use it for light industrial mixed use along with a small museum related to textiles in the area. It'll be a few years before they can move forward with anything.

In the meantime, he's pretty cool about letting people explore the place as long as they don't scrap.

This is correct, if there were construction crews working on a burned down building then it was the other mill that was there and not Clearwater. I can't recall the name of it though.

This place is huge and still one of my favorites. I regret that it is so far away from me now. Whenever you go back, don't forget to post your photos.

The other mill was called the Seminole mill. It's nice to know the place will still be around for the time being, we only explored about a quarter of it. We never touched half the main building or any of the sub-buildings, except for the roof of one of them.

Just google it. Within seconds you'll come up with more pictures, history, and maps.

It was Seminole Mills. Yeah, it burned out quite a while back and they just recently went in there and cleaned it up. They are leaving the historic smokestack and the main part of the main building.

It's pretty easy to find, it's off the main highway between Aiken, SC and Augusta, GA in a small town called Clearwater.

I drove by this morning and noticed in the rear of the building some bricks have been knocked out from under a window and there's some equipment on site. Nothing major in the equipment department...no wreaking balls or anything. I think it was just a dozer. The damage is by the old employees entrance on the cut through street (Belvedere-Clearwater Road). Anyone know if they are planning on taking down a section or doing any work? I drive by this every morning and haven't noticed the damaged brickwork til today. I'll drive over there on my lunch hour and see if there are any workers about I can chat up.
