Hey folks,

I've heard rumours that there is an Kirkbride asylum in London... has anyone been to it, or does anyone know if it still stands?

I lurk, at the best of times. Best to PM or e-mail me. <3

It's not a kirkbride (in fact I don't think there are any kirkbrides outside of the US, but I may be wrong) and the London Psychiatric Hospital is still fully active for the exception of a handful of buildings.

As far as I know it still stands, they updated the security of the medical building with new fencing and new boards on the windows recently so access may not be possible. A year or two ago it was really easy.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

If they see you on the ground taking pictures they will ask you to leave. The guards are wannabe cops. It's kinda of frustrating because the building you are talking about is beautiful. Just be sneaky and take photos from inside a car.

Btw,emiko..."not a pretty girl" is that reference to the Ani Difranco song? Ani rocks my socks.

Ahh, thank you, Boffo! Someone from the States asked me about it, and I wasn't at all sure...

And yes, it's an Ani reference *grin*

He's not kidding.

Cracking that place was tough.

There are a few quasi-Kirkbrides in Ontario and Quebec; that is to say, buildings that roughly resemble a Kirkbride in design, but do not follow the proper staggered design of directly connected wards.

Rockwood is a kirkbride? News to me. I don't quite follow how the London Psych's Medical Examination building is a kirkbride either, unless you're referring to the main active psychiatric buildings, which I didn't actually look at too well.

Not sure if this one counts, but the Centre for Addiction
and Mental Health in Toronto originally looked somewhat similar to a Kirkbride. Or maybe not..

Rockwood certainly isn't a Kirkbride.

From historical photos, it appears that there was once a Kirkbride at the former London Asylum, it has since been torn down though.

Listed on the rootsweb register as a kirkbride building. I don't fucking know, I'm not even going to act like I pay attention to Canada in the slightest, so color me ignorant.

There is one in western Manitoba. Have not made it into the main building as the property does not have steam tunnels.
