I'm not even a smoker but I was baffled that the government would ban smoking as long as the restaurant had a vented smoking room. So, businesses spent big bucks to build these vented smoking rooms then shortly afterwards the government banned these smoking rooms as well. It's beyond silly.

In my opinion the vented smoking rooms didn't work. I could still smell the smoke, and I still got a massive head ache every time I was around them. Furthermore, it didn't solve the problem of waiters and waitresses having to venture inside to attend to the customers.

The bowling alley in Niagara Falls had one of those ventilated smoking rooms. It had a door that closed and there wasn't really any reason for employees to go in there...no food or drinks being served. I know the owner said he had sunk quite a bit of money into building that room. I doubt the smell around the room, which was set back from the bowling area, was any worse than it would be around an exterior door where there's a crowd of people huddled out in the cold smoking their cigarettes.
