OK, that is bullshit. What the fuck do these people think? That building looks fuckin amazing, and they plan to replace it with that flat-ass contempo-retro brick shaped thing? That blows. How bad it the original building? Beyond fixing up? Or a total recover-and-rebuild deal? It can't be as big an eyesore as the sad-ass fix they want.

Did any of you guys actually read the plan for the site? They have some pretty good ideas, but you know, some people would rather have an abandoned, useless structure, rather than putting it to good use...

Yes, I've read it.

They already have some ugly ass condos right behind the Bennett School, and the people of Millbrook dont want any more. I do realize there is no way to restore the Bennett School, it's way too far gone.

Well really you could restore anything if you have the money. There is no such thing really as being to far gone to restore.

I signed on and looked briefly. I don't remember seeing anything about plans for salvaging or selling what remains inside. I am going to be lazy and ask if anyone else did.

It can't be as big an eyesore as the sad-ass fix they want.

they're talking about tearing down the ithaca gun factory here because it's an "eyesore" and replacing it with condos, which in my opinion are an eyesore. i'd rather see the towering brick smokestack reading "ITHACA GUNS" than condos. it may be a shitty place for much exploration, but it's got history and i'd much rather they use the space after tearing it down for something other than condos. it'll be a while before they can raze it though because of all the lead contamination. they only just cleared the first of about 50 hurdles in trying to get funding from the state to help with the clean-up.

if it's a historical building, someone could get in contact with the local historical society. they hold some weight when it comes to restoring or preserving buildings.

I'm so disappointed I never got the chance to head up there.

What a shitty attempt at reusing the building too :\ If they actually cared they'd either restore it[which even I know would be way too costly for the town[] or at least building something that maybe resembles the building. It looks like a stone wall with a tower thrown in there for good measure.

I made a quick registration and checked the site out.

Amazing how much information the builders are giving out! I mean we're talking landscape plans, floor plans, EROSION plans!

Every plan that comes through most planning processes is public information. The whole point of this site is for the public to view the plans and give feed back. People living in surrounding areas should concerned about erosion control and tree planting. These things could effect them in the long run. And about the floor plans, half of what people build today can be downloaded off the internet or in promotional materials, this is not a new thing.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Ah, the Freedom of Information act... I did not know that that kind of stuff was under that.

Thanks,
Ted

Sort of true.

It depends on what state you live in, but a general rule of thumb is this: If the project is funded (even a small amount) by the public, it is subject to public scrutiny.

I still don't think you guys read any of the plans. I saw that first graphic on that site and couldn't help but say to myself "damn that looks ugly as hell." Then I went and downloaded the actual plans later and realized that it isn't too bad.

I mean, I know you guys are all upset because the man is taking one of your playgrounds, but you know, sometimes empty, useless buildings have to be torn down to make way for progress. Get over it.

Theres plenty of abandoned stuff elsewhere that you guys haven't seen, so relax.
