FD Lens to EOS EF Body Mount Adapter anyone?

I've heard that you can get an adaptor for FD lenses on an EOS body. Apparently Canon makes one.. but there's a ton of other no-name brands who've constructed something similar. The Canon adaptor magnifies the focal length by 1.5X and is recommended for lenses greater than 150mm.

Is it worth it to get one of these? Do they affect the quality of the photo? Is the price of canon one (E-bay.. 400$) more justifiable that the price of the other models (Ebay- 80$)?

Would I save a ton of money to get a good adaptor, and be able to buy off the old, used FD lenses that are still good?

Unfortunately FD mount is one of the few lens mounts with a smaller registration distance than EOS. This means that without corrective optics, any FD lens mounted on a EOS body will loose infinity focus, basically turning it into a close up / macro only lens. There are cheap no-optic adapters which do this if you can live with the limitations.

Now, some adapters do have optics which allow the FD lens to keep infinity focus. Problem is, they all suck except the genuine Canon one. Second, the Canon one was only available for a limited time and offered only to registered pro photographers at the time. That's why it is so expensive. It also only works with a few high-end telephotos, not all FD lenses.

Personally I would say it's not worth it unless you already have a big investment in quality FD glass.

the fd lenses are great. i have a few for my ae1 but i heard all the cheap adapters kill the quality of the pictures. the only way to get good quilted mounting the AE1 on an eos system is to get an expensive mount. i don't know too much about that. i shoot w/ a nikon
