Hey! I realize that most people probably aren't up for meeting up with random online strangers to go explore stuff with, but I'm going to send my request out anyways.

I'm looking for someone to do some UE with in Edmonton and area! I just did my first outing on the weekend to the old tram tunnel this past weekend and I'm hooked. Unfortunately, my 2 friends and I really don't have any other experience between us, and we are aching to go out but concerned that our lack of confidence in all of this will lead to our downfall. I don't want a $100 ticket!

Our next target is a church that is being demolished to make way for condos downtown, and possibly the Molson factory as well.

These types of threads are probably posted all the time, and in all likelihood are annoying and won't work, but I'm hoping that there is some group or event hosted in the city that I was unable to find with Google and that someone here can point me in the right direction.

Anyways, I'll see you all around the forum, and thanks for any responses in advance!

Hey Bennedetto,

As an amateur explorer in Edmonton I can say you are in luck as Edmonton is breaking at the seems with UE sites. I am an amateur myself, however I find with UE that it is not very welcoming of strangers. It takes a while for peoples trust to build up. I have yet to ever UE with someone off the net.

To help, I would recommend posting your pictures and tales of places you have been

I'm not alone!

I agree, Edmonton is full of amazing old architecture. The tunnels that are supposedly below downtown sound incredible.

Based off of the reading that I've done on the forum thus far, I completely understand why people generally don't feel inclined to meet up with strangers. Especially when you have no way to gauge the ethics and morals of an individual.

My intentions are to post the pictures and stories that I gather from my expeditions. Unfortunately, I do not have a camera of my own and I also have no skill whatsoever with photography. From what I have seen, people here don't seem to like pictures that aren't stellar. All I want are photos for the memories, not the art.

The pictures that I have from the Tram tunnel are quite boring, as there is really nothing there.

Maybe some day in the future you might even trust me enough to let me tag along with one of your adventures

Benny

? Last time I was in Edmonton there seemed to be an absence of amazing neo-classical architecture.

It's true that most of our abandoned and older buildings are demolished quite quickly to make way for condos, thanks to our booming economy. The amount of really interesting active locations however, is cool. Downtown Edmonton is where its at. Tunnels abound (or so I've heard).

I guess clarifying "old" would be necessary. If you're looking for stuff that is 100 years + you won't find much. I'm still a youngin', anything made before 1970 is old to me

My friend was the only one armed with the camera, so I will post them up as soon as I get them.

If they are garbage, don't hold it against me!

I agree on this one 100%. Really, its a bonus if you know how to take nice pictures and consider the lighting and allow your UE trip a chance for you to make some great art, but for me, I do UE for the historical aspect and the adventure aspect.

Photos are great to document a place and to preserve its history like no other will. Take the Camsell for example, plenty of pictures can be found of it when its active, but it has been a UE site for almost ten years. Thats ten years of history that no one will ever know about, except for people involved in UE.

So I for one will not critize photos and there quality. Any contribution would be sweet.

Nice going to explore that tunnel but be careful in my tunnel. those overhead lines have 600 Volts flowing through them all year round (Ask the last kid electricuted for falling on the line while jumping the fence. I posted some pics while working in the tunnel somewhere else here a while back. i work with the ERRS so i have the access into it..

Anyways... If your looking for a partner some day, keep me in mind. Just remember i have a wife and 2 little kids so i don't want to be caught in a very bad spot lol.
