I am trying to get up to Statesville from Charlotte within the next month to do some exploring, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good locations to check out. I am anxious to photograph whatever I can get my hands on that day. Thank you!

There are a few places I've been wanting to see there... I know Davis Hospital is in the area along with some other places I've heard of. However, I don't really know the area so I couldn't be of much help. Though if you'd like someone to go with, I wouldn't mind tagging along *^^* I also have a friend who lives in the area. He's not into exploring as much as myself, but he wouldn't mind doing so. Plus he might know of some places around Statesville...

I'll be there next Thursday and should have some time to drive around for a look.

I did a drive through around town earlier. Couldn't get too specific because I had a meeting to get to, but I think I have a good starting point for you.

This is the old industrial/manufacturing part of town. Some places surprised me because I thought they were abandoned and then I see a forklift come out of a door. Other places are definitely vacant, and some in the process of demolition. You could pretty much park somewhere and just walk down the railroad tracks in this area and find a few places.

Just thought I'd drop a mention about Davis Hospital. A lot of people have been asking how to get in- I really can't say, it's been years since I've actually been inside. Last I heard the windows had been gated closed and a guard dog had been let loose in the building. I know the part about the windows is true; I think the guard dog might be a rumor.

Anyway, I haven't had much in the way of time or money to go exploring lately, but I've uploaded all my pictures from Davis (full size) to my Flickr account. They are being licensed under a Creative Commons deal..specifically, this one:

So go crazy, download them, print them, whatever. They are a couple years old, at least, but they are a decent representation of what the hospital looks like for those of you who can't get in.

There is a security company that's located in the first floor of Davis Hospital.

One day I am going to New Zealand and I will walk the path from the Shire to Mordor and scale mt. doom.

Wilson Security- they are only in a small office area- what was the "original" hospital. The bottom floor of this section:

There is a door that leads into the rest of the building that they keep closed up.

They are actually how I got in- I straight up asked them and they let me wander around a couple times. I think vandals may have ruined it though, because last I heard, they weren't letting people in anymore. I had given their number to a couple explorers I trusted and they turned them down...

Pretty much the same story here. I was turned down by the security company and asked if I could have the building owners contact information, but I haven't pursued that route any. It still looks a bit interesting from outside, but it has obviously been ruined over time.

The dog part is not a rumor.

i've been in contact with wilson security and the owner of the hospital just won't even return any of my calls. and i've left about 6 messages. wilson is inside the building now and they patrol it. they have guard dogs loose in there and that is for sure. they told me that if the owner approved getting inside, they'd allow it, but i'd have to go through the owner because you have to wear a big-time mask to walk through due to asbestos and lead paint. they said that the used to let people walk through, but some ghost hunters came out there a year or so ago and asked for permission. they gave it to them and let them walk through, but then at night, they came back and broke into teh place and did lots of damage getting in, so they kinda spoiled it for the rest of us.

If you talk to the owner tell them you will bring along a safety specialist. I deal with much worse than asbestos and lead paint at clients I have to visit every week.
