| | | Seoul City from rooftops < on 10/27/2007 4:05 PM >
| | | After I got some positive comments about my Seoul pictures in another thread I thought I'd post some more photos. Maybe not strictly UE but pretty well all of these were taken from rooftops or balconies I had to sneak onto or that gave me quite a sweat getting up to. My immediate neighbourhood. The writing on the chimney means "sauna."
I think this picture would make a good jigsaw puzzle. Taken from the top of a run-down church.
In my old neighbourhood, I was once woken up early by the brilliant sunrise. I immediately ran to the nearest hghrise where I could get pictures.
I used to live in one of these buildings.
Sunset.
Just a rooftop taken from a better vantage point on a hill.
This was on top of a mountain in the middle of Seoul right before I did some plain old UEing.
From the rooftop of my work.
From the top of Nine Dragons Mountain near my old work. It was a hell of a climb and I nearly died, and then when I got to the top I found it overrun with senior citizens. [last edit 10/27/2007 4:09 PM by Steed - edited 3 times]

| | | great set. there are quite a few places in eastern Europe that I would love to see. Tibet, Hong Kong and Bangkok to name a few. what are some of the biggest differences between living there and living in north america. (assuming that you have lived somewhere in north america. again, really nice set.

Those are water tanks. And actually the population density isn't always bad. In most places like these in my pictures it's not like everyone's packed shoulder to shoulder. That's just the subways and the main districts. I don't have many night shots on the scale of these photos, but I'll look around.

My real hometown is Edmonton, Canada. The main differences are transportation. One of the things I hated most about living in North America was how you needed a car. Over here there's a highly developed public transportation system. Another mostly aesthetic difference is how Seoul is not flat, and as you can tell in photos it's filled with mountain peaks averaging about 400m high. I should also mention the random awful smells that hit you sometimes. Well here's one nighttime image I found. I don't like it much though.

Actually, langP's rooftop overlooks a Korean military base. Which, also, overlooks a very large American military base. The belt of trees you can see beyond the school-looking building but before the line of skyscrapers is Yongsan Garrison.

| | | Yeah, the more I think about that image. . . it's actually not even from my roof but from my front balcony. Anyway, as racetraitor pointed out, the razor wire and camera are to protect the wall of the little military base there. There are ROK soldiers patrolling the inside perimeter with guns and crap too, although I've been told they're for show and not loaded. The base itself is just an accounting office. Military payroll basically. Then there's the aforementioned Yongsan Garrison, or as I like to call it, the land of thousands of bored Americans. I've had more than a few soldiers tell me that Korea is considered one of the worst tours you can possibly get. Speaking of US Military: A few months ago, I was walking around and found the US Army Corps of Engineers headquarters. Some really awesome looking older architecture there, but just as I was about to start taking pictures, I saw this sign posted right under a security camera. It told me that trespassing (including photographing) on US Government property is illegal and considered an act of terrorism and blah blah blah. Dudes take shit seriously, man.
