| | | They're both tools, useful for specific situations. Shooting skateboarding/skaters/bmx - bring out the fish. Most other situations - wideangle.

| | | The fisheye is rarely any good for architectural photography. Just my two cents. I enjoy my 24mm. I plan on getting a 21 or perhaps a 19.

| | | A fisheye lens is only good to shoot a skateboard/snowboard/jackass type movie. I've seen a local jackass movie produced by some 16 years old kids, they actually simulated a fisheye lens with a video plugin. Anyway.

| | | Did someone say fish eye? I have been looking for one of those.
Finally a use for my dead fish photo. In all seriousness I have a fish eye lens and it lost its novelty real quick. The wide angle is useful in everyday situations.

| | | I bought the Nikkor fisheye a couple years ago, ended up regretting the purchase early enough for the camera store to take it back - albeit with a re-stocking fee - and switching to the 12-24 zoom, which quickly became my favorite lens. The fisheye is a specialty lens (ya, no shit) and gets amazing results in the right hands with the right subject, and with Nikon Capture software can even provide a rectilinear photo... with very soft corners, but again, its usefulness is limited for the bulk of shooters. But like someone said already, you'll get bored of it fast. It's definitely not a walkaround lens, and you probably wouldn't want to waste room in your camera bag on it either if you were hoofing it and sticking to essentials.
