MD state park and its smoldering houses

We recently went to a local state park in MD, shot a few photos, but the strange thing was a bunch of houses in random places had just totally burned down. Out of the 6 homes on the parks property, 4 of them had been burned to the ground what appeared to have been earlier that morning. Just thought they looked kinda cool and wanted to share a link.

40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware.

Those houses are where the workers at the factory at the bottom of the hill used to work. The factory closed after a fire in 2003 and the workers moved out. I talked to the security guard who watches the factory a few months ago and he said its probably arson. It's a shame, some of them were pretty nice houses.

thanks for the heads up. we walked up the road and got yelled for walking on a public street. the guards kicked us out even thought people drove and biked by. apparently its against the law to walk on a public street. the guard actually told me and my wife that people can drive or bike through these streets but that no one can stop and/or take pictures. we actually saw him approach another vehicle who stopped to look. he let us walk out of there but watched us until we got to our car. while it is a "state park," i guess this section is considered a private section of it. these houses were not at all occupied; they all had signs that they were private property and owned by Simkins Industries.

also, you will see that there are a few photos of the factory right by the houses. since it was the middle of the day and people were out, my wife tried to just take outside pictures and keep her distance; we weren't being secretive. but, again, another guard told us that we can't even photograph the outside of the factory!

It seemed really strange that the homes still smoked and smoldered. I tried to find info on google but had no luck.

thanks again!

At this point I wonder if the fire department is burning them. The first few were probably accidental and arson. It seems alittle strange for all of those houses to be burned by arson and no one make a peep.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Could very well be a controlled burn, could be more cost effective than demo.

Maybe. Simpkins Industries abandoned the place. Was a cardboard factory.

Although those houses are right next to the park I don't think that they are actually on the property.

Buildings have two natural enemies- water, and bears.
