|  | | | This was at one time a middle school, now it sits vacant, except every now and then used for police training and also used for storage for the assisted living center behind it.
Wagnasty and I did a scout mission, being it's right in town in a neighborhood, entry will be difficult.

| | | | It must be kind of eerie going through an abandoned school as they are typically very noisey/lively places when they are in service. The dead silence of a vacant one must make for an odd contrast.

| | | | Ok I talked to my dad, and he gave me a little more background on this school.
This isn't the original. It was first built in 1901, then had a massive fire and was rebuilt in 1907. It originally housed high school, until the current high school was built. Then it switched to junior high until the new junior high was built in the 70's. For a short time, it was a middle school, until it closed in 1985 or 86, the city citing they would "never have need for another school building". Fast forward 18 years, the school district starts crying about "overcrowding" and builds a brand-new junior high and does some serious add-ons to the high school. Here sits this building, long sold off to the assisted living center, vacant and unused. And I've heard from a couple people the gym floor is badly damaged due to a leaking skylight. Sad.
