| | | I would propose 11:00 AM? The fog (if any) should be on its way out by then, and give us enough time to survey the site.

| | | Any time works for me on Friday. The more people, the better chance to find some unique debris from the site.

| | | ArcanumOne and I went to the site of the Flying Tigers Flight 282 crash on Friday and we each made some great finds. He found the aircraft's nosewheel steering wheel that would have been mounted in the cockpit. Judging from that find and a bunch of other pieces including a piece of cockpit control panel, we found the impact site of the cockpit.
I found a piece from what turned out to be a Boeing 727, sort of. The Flying Tigers Flight 282 was a Lockheed L-1049. I first thought this might have fallen off a passing aircraft, but after finding some more knowledgeable people and showing them the pictures they told me that this was actually a tool used for maintenance of the Boeing 727 and not an actual piece of the aircraft. It looks like the tool may have been used for something in relation to the landing gear and was likely a piece of cargo on Flying Tigers Flight 282. There is quite a bit of costume jewelry/beads at the site and circuit boards from the cargo they were carrying, but a cargo find like this is just great compared to the "usual" finds at the site. We may have also found a scarf melted into some debris, it turns out they were carrying scarves and purses too, which I didn't know about previously.
This was my third trip to the site and I was just as amazed at the finds on this trip as I was on the previous trips. Still the rumor of the engine persists and ArcanumOne said the large piece that we looked at and is on my Flickr page looks like the engine cowling, I'm going to have to go back to get more detail pics of that piece too. Also, finding the Boeing piece so far away from the other debris makes me think there is way more out there to find.
