For those who have been checking out these posts, I must admit I have left something out. During my last trip, there was a small "accident". Here is a copy/paste from my website. "Something very frightening happened to me today and I feel that everyone should be made aware. I went back to the house ive been photographing but today I went alone. Im not sure if anyone knew I was there or was going there. That was my first mistake. As some of you may know, having looked at the photos, the house is full of things. Today I was looking through one of the many cigar boxes in the house and I found what I thought was an old pen. When I looked closer, I thought maybe it was an antique tire pressure gauge. Where the ballpoint would have been was something grey and rounded. On the side of this device was a small slide lever that was spring loaded. At this point I started pulling the lever back and forth a couple of times and then I pulled it all the way back and let it go. There was a loud bang, I saw a bright flash and instantly felt pain in my groin. I jumped up from my crouching position and quickly checked myself for a hole and/or blood, now realizing I had just fired a gun unlike any kind I had seen before. My ears were instantly fucked up, I couldnt hear anything. I pulled my pants down, checked myself and luckily, very luckily, I was ok. Apparently the "pen" flew back out of my hand and hit me in the crotch. I was in a slight shock for a bit. I called both Carpe and Bluestreak right away because I was freaking out pretty badly."
Everything turned out ok. However my ears are still messed up and I hope they will get better with time. The bullet is a .38 by the way. Here are the photos......

| | | they were talking about those mini gun's on the history channel or some other one on a show awhile back. there mainly carried by ex-cons cause there cheap enough to toss, and small enough to hide untill needed.

| | | thats perfectly legal when you shoot a teargas (now obsolete) cartridge in it its a federal offense when you load (or modify it to accept) a projectile round sounds like your lucky day since you werent looking down the barrel or pointing it at some other kids brain pan when you let the striker go! ps I still have some teargas rounds for those I'll sell cheap [last edit 9/19/2007 4:21 AM by Explorer Zero - edited 1 times]

| | | i kept it. and as many people might say that they would know right away it is a gun, i have never seen something like this before. but i think i have learned not to play with levers, buttons, switches etc. you never know what they may do and could possibly be a trap

| | | Look on the bright side, you expended it before someone else got to it. That might have been bad as well.

I'm not too keen on going near any recently occupied houses for a bunch of good reasons. If I do, I don't take anything other than images, and even that could lead to a felony conviction. If the place is truly abandoned, that's a different set of circumstances entirely. Depending on the State one is in. 2XP makes a very valid point. A firearm that has been illegally modified to except a firearm round is nothing but an invitation for a warrant and visit from the ATF. Firearms are almost never "abandoned" without a good reason, most times it's a very bad one. The bolt action was a dead a giveaway. Your lucky the breached didn't explode in your hand, or worse it could have been a booby trap. It's also your basic primer cap trigger any number of antipersonnel weapons using C-4, a piece line det cord, or simply a large caliber round in a deliberately sealed barrel. A mangled foot, or flying fingers, maybe worse is the reward for finding one of these by mistake or fate. Many people know how to make the devices, easily. Trust nothing.
Maybe that house is best left alone...
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
