NW Ohio - Abandoned Church in Findlay

My friend Amanda and I found this on the way to another location, and finally got around to photographing it. The pictures are from two trips - one was cut short because of poor lighting. The neighbors are pretty cool and didn't mind that we were taking pictures. Of course it helps when you go with a girl - she has gotten us into many places and out of a few jams.

I'd like some feedback about the quality of pictures, in particular the ones that have been aged. Do they work ok? I hate sepia toning for the most part, but this filter seems to do a bit more.

Would I have passed it going from westbound from I-75 to the sleepy little burg of Gilboa?

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

The church is east of I75, about 5 or 10 minutes.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

When were these taken, I know Findlay has had flooding problems lately. You need to get out to Athens soon man, I'm living up here now and have to do some exploring.

Wonderful. I'll have to stop by there the next time I'm home. I'm from Findlay, but now in Missouri. I probably know you.

Those pics are REALLY nice. Incidentally, I've been in Findlay many times (during Greyhound trips), and that town has the nicest tourist stop (just off of I-75) that I've ever seen.

Chiming in with everyone else, great find and nice photos. Damn, we gotta get up together again sometime. I really like the piano/window stuff.

also,

I'd like some feedback about the quality of pictures, in particular the ones that have been aged. Do they work ok? I hate sepia toning for the most part, but this filter seems to do a bit more.

Sepia works best IMO for aging B+W photos, esp with a touch of vignetting. As far as color goes, I think the half-desaturation route and screwing the color balance off slightly works well. But probably most importantly people in the past had a very different way of framing and composing pictures in general; this factor alerts people to the modernity of a picture. Also, items, such as cell phones, plastics and clothing make this difficult.

They are nice photos, but no, I didn't really think any of them were aged at any particular time I looked over them.

(how's your conversations with jesus coming along? I've been killing to look at it lately. . .)

I totally would have set up my camera on a tri pod and taken a self picture of me at the pulpit pretending to preach.

These were taken shortly after the floods. This particular area wasn't hit very hard, though the sorrounding countryside was full of rotting vegetation in low spots. Before the summer is out we need to meet up for sure, I'm itching to see that water park in Cincy. Found any good things around Athens?

I've been working on a new Ohio-centric urbex website, so my occasional chats with Jesus are on hold. Did you ever get up to see that missile base near Detroit?

I'll tell you I've spent way to much time on I-75 and everytime I'm on it I just get the urge to pull over and wander in to all the abandoned barns and farmhouses along the road. Great work by the way, there is something strange about abandoned churches. Remember God never abandons anywhere.
