Rosedale Elementary School

This is Rosedale Elementary School, or what's left of it. It's on TN 116, which is an interesting motorcycle ride in its own right, as well as for the view you get of Brushy Mountain State Prison, former home to James Earl Ray, and the oldest operating prison in Tennessee.

These were shot in absolutely dismal lighting conditions near dusk after a thunderstorm, somewhat annoying considering I'd ridden considerably out of my way this particular day for the express purpose of bringing a camera back to this site. Hopefully the atmosphere contributed to the mood of these photos. The building is probably a total loss; the gymnasium has 12-18 inches of standing water, as do other low-lying areas of the site.

Interior shots would be nice. Although I'm sure the outside still has a lot to offer.

There are houses across the street and next door, and both had locals that were looking at us rather suspiciously, so I didn't go inside. It was pretty trashed inside, though; I think it's most photogenic from the exterior.

I like picture #8

When I seen this thread I was like "Whoa an abandoned school in my hometown that I don't know about??"

......then I read the thread and seen it's in Tennessee.

(I grew up in Rosedale, Maryland)

I just found that area along 116 this summer and the place is amazing. It has the strip mine/oil and gas field/wind farm all in one. It throws a wrench in green people's perfect picture. I've been up to the Bushy Mountain Coal mines. They're worth checking out.

It reminds me of Haverford State. Must have been built around the same time.
