| | | Hey! The first pictures (afaik) from Hungary have arrived! These photos were taken in the Csepel Vehicle Factory, Szigetszentmiklós, in 2005. The Csepel Vehicle Factory was founded in the 1940s, originally as a "daughter" of the Csepel Works in Budapest, the original purpose was to produce airplanes, but due to the bombings of WW2 the production was halted. Instead they built trucks and bus parts for ~40 years. I don't know what happened to the factory _exactly_, but my guess is that in the early 1990s many of the factory's plants were closed and a lot of people were layed off, and several companies bought the place. Now there are warehouses and smaller companies active in the area, and a few buildings were left to rot. Here are some pictures that I didn't lose or delete in the past 2 years... location on google maps
This set of pictures was taken in the "mother" of the above factory, the Csepel Works in Budapest. The Csepel Works (Originally Weiss Manfréd Factory) was founded in the late 1890s by two brothers. Later it began to grow, and as socialism kicked in in Hungary, the state took over it and was labelled "Csepel Works". It is a huge industrial site, 95% active, but in the same way as the above location - small businesses and smaller / midsize companies own the buildings. Many buildings I've been to a year ago were just being demolished when we were there last week, but we found some other cool places, like a basement, another foundry and a bomb shelter, the latter being used by rock bands as a studio in part. As for order, first we climbed up to these valves near the tubes serving an unknown purpose, crossing the whole site. Then we found the basement I was talking about, the entry is shown on one of the pictures, the one right after the photos taken in the basement. Next came the bomb shelter, which was not that much fun, since it was being used - still a cool site. Never been to a bomb shelter before Last we took a look at that foundry, waiting to be demolished... location on google maps
cheers, kelsey

| | | Hello you have here some nice pics, do you know other places in Budapest, where you can go to? In the summer I'm in Budapest and I would like to know, where I can find some abandoned factories or other industrial buildings... I suppose I have to search them in Köbánya, but do you have further informations about that?
