Olympia Brewery

the olympia brewery, both new and old has faced some troubling times recently. now two would be buyers have backed out of renovating the property. people in town have become accustom to just driving past a massive 100+ acre complex as if it were just part of the scenery.

those familiar with the brewery can tell you quite a bit about it's history. i plan on doing a dedicated site profile once i get some better pictures so be on the lookout.

the new brewery sports a 24 hour guard who does regular patrols around the complex, welded doors and grates, security lights and very very visable sections so it's for sure a worthy opponant. this building and all it's out croppings are HOT. i wouldn't attempt even checking it out unless you're prepared for some serious stealth.

after some dedicated poking around (and several close calls with security) i finally made it in. because of the security guard and the many windows in the place the only photos i got were taken totally blind in rooms with no windows so i apologize in advance for thier crappiness. I will most definatly get better ones though as this building is MASSIVE and i only explored about half in almost two hours inside. i should mention that i did this whole run with no flashlight, which was both really really cool and really really slow.

after all this time the brewery still smells like beer...

Very nice! Wish I had known there was a second site... oh well, what can I say, damn tourists! lol

I did try to hit the flour mill as suggested, but I had a somewhat difficult time finding it (I'm assuming it was in seattle) which I found a cool site, just couldn't find access to the site... wish I was in the area longer, now I'm dying for work to send me back for a return trip!

Anyway, on the Old Brewery site (i think) here are a few photo's I did get. nothing spectacular, since the buildings were mostly locked tight, and guard activity had me semi spooked...

Oh yeah, sry for the big images, but I couldn't figure out the PIC=1 tag to get the gallery feature to work, so I just used good ol IMG tags.

That last image tells me the salvage crew is still active. Also I'm now convinced that DG is correct that the Brewery has full time/24hr security. This place has gotten hotter since I've been in.

i heard a radio playing in one of the warehouses on a previous scouting trip and when i looked in a window i saw some very new tools. i'm pretty sure that salvaging is only going on in the lower warehouses.

on the other hand, work did begin when the water bottling company was going to move in and then stopped. also, most of the large pieces of equipment in the section i got into had auction lot tags on them. they weren't dated and they didn't seem recent but i couldn't tell for sure. it's possible that a bunch of work went on at once and then stopped.

in the section i got into, i didn't see anything indicating a salvage but there is definately SOME kind of activity going on in certain parts.

on that same recon mission i saw something wierd. newer looking cars in one of the long warehouses that i at first took to be workers cars and signs of activity but upon closer inspection i saw that all the tires were flat and the wind shields were covered in thick layers of dust.

personally, i wonder if theres something sketchy going on there. i don't know what, but there is some wierd stuff in those buildings.

Check the other Brewery thread, I've put some background info there. Also, the auction tags are from when Whetstone (New Owner) was selling all the valuables but was halted since he paid $15m for the property but borrowed $45m from investors, then disappeared. The salvage crew is the only active personnel (Other than security) on the property and I have no clue what they're doing really. Just tearing shit up.

So I felt this didnt warrant a new thread when there's two already. Deuterium, Dangerousgift, my cohort & myself did the brewery again recently. Deuterium, Dangerousgift and myself checked out the outbuildings as outlined in my posts in LuminousAphid's thread. Around midnight my cohort joined us to go to the brewhouse but Dangerousgift had to leave due to it being a worknight, so Deuterium, my cohort and myself spent a good two hours from the roofs to a close call looking into the guard shack.

That's the gist of it, I'll let the others pipe up now.

i am definatly going back for some pictures. the guard there is more intense than i thought. as aaronni posted i had to get back when it hit about 1:30 or so because of work but the out buildings were pretty cool. everyone has their different tastes when it comes to buildings but huge empty ones are some of my faves.

if anyone plans a visit to this site be warned: it is both heavily guarded with security walking through buildings with flashlights at irregular intervals and is an active work site. at least one out building is being activly worked in although the type of work being done is not exactly clear. it really doesn't look like a salvage. fishy...

also deuterium brought a resporator (sp?) which, for the brew tower is a good idea. i think theres actually a lot of air borne yeast in there in addition to mold. no good for the sinuses.

in the event you find yourself stuck in a tight spot on the roof remember, if you stay still you look like a ventilation fan... just saying...

pictures to come...

Just an FYI Deuterium went the respirator route but my friend and I did the hankerchief thing and I've yet to report any sinus troubles. Maybe if you're sensitive to mold/yeast/airborne shite you should wear a respirator, me, I like the smell!
