Hi, I live a few doors south of Sherbrooke. Yes, the drug store in the old photo is the repair/pawn shop. Here's the link I should have given:
http://www.mccord-...87.142&section=196
You can click on the full screen button, then zoom in a lot. If you look closely at the bldg on Sherbrooke & Prud'homme, the roofs and windows are the same but the ornaments are gone. There's a sign "autobus/tramway" right where the mattress shop is now. That building is the same too. You can even see the apt building on the corner of Addington and Sherbrooke. I just wish it showed more of where the autoroute is now.

The demolition on those 3 abandoned buildings was supposed to start first week of Sept. Gemst moved out before labour day, the old lady (84) died recently, think she was the last person living in the apt building with the door on Prud'homme, the repair shop moved to the other side of Decarie. First I heard it was going to be a retirement condo, now people are saying they want to build a highrise like across the street! They placed notices on all the doors asking if anyone had any objection to the demolition to write to an address. By chance someone told me about a tiny ad in the paper the city placed about a June 20 meeting, but I missed it. Nothing posted on the city site, asked for info at the office, just received a notice that I can go and see the documents. Maybe it will say who's building what. When I asked why the info wasn't posted on the borough's website, the lady told me they couldn't post everything!

Wow, I never saw the notice and I can see those buildings from my house if I walk into the middle of Prud'Homme street. They must of only givent them out to a few houses. I really hope they don't bring another high rise tower. We have enough theft, parking issues and trouble on the street as it is. Although I must say I love the area, I've been here for 12 years.

I didn't notice GEMST had moved, I was sure that building was still occupied, it's in fairly good shape too.. however the corner apartment buildings are really disgusting. I'm surprised only once person was left in that building, they were waiting for her to die before they would do anything?
I really wish they would put a poster up or something.

As for the building on Girouard and St-jacques.. wasn't there a fire? I passed one day a few weeks ago and the Deppaneur was still active .. I passed yesterday to find the whole building being torn down..Something must of happened because I have no clue why they would want to build ANYTHING on that corner.

The 'depanneur' has been closed 2 weeks ago... I used to go there cause they had a nice selection of beer (and it was 25 sec away from where i live)

They were no fire but the destruction took less than 2 days

Do you know what makes the special sauce so special?

Got a picture from the borough office of what will be built between Autoroute Decarie Sherbrooke exit and Prud'homme. I heard they were supposed to demolish first week of Sept. but still nothing. All empty now.

Woops!

I honestly don't pay much attention to taglines, so I really didn't notice it right there in my face even as I responded. I just happened to see this discussion and was reminded of this dude in Montreal who is in my Contacts list on Flickr.

Very sorry! ;)

P.S. He even uses the same avatar, adding to how silly I feel right now!

Hé guil !

Tu as grandi à St-Hyacinthe ?

peu rénovés à travers les années, les bâtiments requièrent de très importants travaux de mise à niveau (électricité, plomberie, chauffage, fenestration, isolation, sécurité contre les incendies);
